Clear black beer with a thick and bubbly beige head. Light aroma of malt. Flavour has a lot going on. Fruit up front very briefly, malty chocolate, a bit of coffee in there but then a nice dose of bitter, grassy hop to mix things up. Has a nice, rich body too. A great beer.

Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting, from Oddbins Chiswick. BB 28.07. 2014. Ruby colour, large and fluffy beige head. Moderate but nice aroma of dark but not heavily roasted malts. The flavour is also malty, but fairly dry, with moderate roasty notes and hints of chocolate. Sufficient bitterness. Nice beer.

Shared bottle at RB/HD 07.02.15. Dark brown. Foamy, brown head and lacing. Fine aroma of dark malts and blackberries. Also dark malt in taste, with chocolate and cofee. Evident hop bitterness. Quite dry mouthfeel. Good drinkability.

Bottle shared at tasting. Mild brown chocolate, coffee tones. Nutty and schwarz-like. Easy medium body. Foamy off-white head. OK.

Pours deep ruby/dark brown with a huge beige quickly dissipating head leaving lots of lacings. Aroma is flowery, some roasted notes, coffee. Taste is bitter up-front with grass, flowers, some malty tones before ending quite lingering bitter. Light to medium body, medium carbo, sharp bubbles. It says 23 IBU but it feels like it was way more. The bitterness probably comes through this much due to the fairly weak body.

Cask @ Pilgrim’s Progress (JDW), Bedford. Dark brown, medium khaki head with massive lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast malt and blackberries. A possetty off-smell spoils what would otherwise be a near perfect aroma. Taste is initally balanced bitter with sweet overtones. Increasingly bitter finish (too bitter for me). Imperfect but still very very good.
