  Stout - Imperial Regular
Score
7.38
ABV: 11.0% IBU: - Ticks: 12
An imperial stout brewed with an Aztec inspired spice blend of Ancho Chili, Cinnamon, Cocoa and Vanilla. The spice character on this beer is meant to be warming, not hot. The ancho gives off delicate dark fruit and raisin character along with a warmth that beautifully accents the cinnamon. The cocoa adds a decadent dark chocolate bitterness while the vanilla's sweetness brings everything into balance.

Expect lots of warming spices on the nose while the palate is dominated by bitter cocoa, vanilla sweetness and dark fruit.

Roast and some cinnamon. Vanilla, some chili. Black pour with good mocha head. Oily consistency. Bittersweet finish. Lots going on here, and it comes off well though not perfectly. Chocolate. Can.

On tap in PoCo (when Port Moody's too far, ja know). Very black body and very little foam, has a soft barley aroma like that closet you usually don't open in your Coquitlam condo that you bought which was just constructed in 2015. Drywall - that's it. The flavour is huge cinnamon spice, chewy dry coffee, big dark cocoa nibs in the most hipster-y way you could imagine. Medium finish, surprisingly mellow for such high alcohol. Nice, good, big. Twin sails knows how to sell the high alcohol vibe.

Poured from the tap at the brewery. Near black with full tan head. Cocoa, mild cinnamon, sweet ancho chilli background (don’t let “chili” put you off, this isn’t spicy), subtle vanilla. Quite rich and flavourful. Really enjoyable, but not something I could have more than one of.

473 ml can. Pours a muddy dark brown with dark tan head that fades to big bubbles and disappears quickly. Aromas of dusty peppers, cinnamon, dark chocolate and powdery roasted malts. Flavors of... well everything and nothing... lots going on but only a spicy and somewhat minty chocolate stands out. Dusty and dry. Much better in can. Had on tap at St Augustine's as well. Seemed weaker and lacking spice. Would have rated a couple of points less. From previous reviews I'd assume last year's batch was much better...

Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some tobacco, some light chiles notes with some nice floral coffee undertones is quite pleasant. Taste is also a good mix of roasted malt with some floral coffee notes, some chiles notes without any overly spicy notes with light tobacco notes which provides extra depth to this beer. Body is pretty full with good carbonation and no real apparent alcohol notes. Wonderful spiced imperial stout.

Very dark brown with a thick and frothy head. The nose has cinnamon, chocolate and a bit of ancho. Rich deep chocolate, cinnamon, alcohol, white sugar (and I never taste that in beer but it's part of Mexican chocolate). Damn. Ancho is loud and clear - that earthy, roasted fruit note. Hell yeah. Nothing subtle here, no refinement, but fuck it I love these flavours.

Tall can from the brewery (thx, Alex!). Canned 2018-02-09. Pours a very dark brown with a brown head. Aroma is spices and some cocoa. Taste is chilly peppers, cinnamon, and some slight cocoa. Not really good balanced from the spices standpoint, but it is fairly pleasant.
