The complexity of simplicity. Ramping up a simple recipe of base malt and East Kent Golding provides a rich and intense ale that with time will develop great complexity.

Maybe it had to develop some more, cause it didn’t find this one complex. Standard sweet barley wine with lots of sugar and malt.

Craft Clerkenwell. Keg. Hazy gold beer, residual white head. Palate is pretty viscous and carries a modest amount of fine carbonation. Very sweet malt, creamy. Sweet floral orange and blood orange. A little spice and sweet lemon. Finishes smooth and semi dry with spice getting stronger. No real alcohol heat here. A mixed bag but not bad at all.

Tap @ Beer Temple, medium sample. Clear amber color, short head. Aroma of sweet candy, hint of raisin, bit hoppy. Quite sweet in taste, slight bitter. It lacks the big malty base of an american barley wine and provides more light bodied sweetness like a belgian quadrupel, but then without the belgian spicy yeast. Maybe needs more time to develop, but for now its a bit one dimensional.

Golden to light amber color with generous and steady creamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, far from being fascinating. Strong body, sweet and fruity malt flavor (yellow fruit jam, sugary apricot jam); low bitterness; the alcohol can be perceived but it’s well managed.
It reminds me of a failed American attempt at brewing a Belgian Tripel, sweet without character; this is not a good Belgian Strong, nor a Barley Wine; and the price tag (69kr) is therefore ridiculous and grants for a point less.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Almost clear golden with a large white head. Sweet aroma and taste of yeast, orange, alcohol, fruit, hops and sugar. The finish was quite bitter. Too sweet and with too much alcohol in the taste. Wonder what will happen with this one with some aging? I did not finish my bottle.

Bottle. Strange barley wine that reminds me of a overpowered saison!? Notes of orange, banana, sweet bread, yeast and clove. Strange bitterness... Rather nice tough.
