Can courtesy of Deanso. Poured a clear dark chesnut brown with a frothy off white head and some broken lace. The aroma is rich malt, wood, fruit and a little resin. The flavour is medium to weak bitter. Light bodied with a smooth sweet malty warty palate.

Beatiful brown color with great red hue. Nice beige head that leaves medium lacingOn the nose it’s a bit grassy at first. Some pilsner malts.Apricots maybe. Something slightly chemical. Caramel, with a light touch of citrus, some berries. Just a touch of toasted malts, then more sweetness, almost sugary. Green apple, apricot pudding. Palate: fresh, medium, slightly dry for such a sweet beer. Nice carbonation. Feels great. Overall: this beer doesn’t really know what it wants to be. The taste could be more outspoken and have more body, but it’s actually quite good. Not a typical bock, so doesn’t get high points for style, but this is quite drinkable.

Standard Dutch bockbeer. Just as the other bock beer from the big breweries, it’s too sweet.

300ml bottle. Clear ruby red glowing darkest amber colour with average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to tan head. Expressionless malty aroma has - to be generous - notes of red berries, cautious herbal hints of juniper. Taste is sweet caramel malty with fruity notes of red berries and hints of juniper as dry, herbal counterpoint. Fantastic coloured Dunkler Bock, light and quaffable, maybe a characteristic of being top fermented.

Second beer of 2013: 30cl bottle BBD of 08-2013. Poured into a Westmalle chalice on 2nd Jan 2013. Slightly disappointed with this to be honest: bog standard feel from start to finish. Ruby red/brown body with a biege head. Looked good; sadly it went down hill from then on. Malts all the way as you’d expect from a Bock: smell and taste dominated by sweet malty molasses with no complexity or class. This is just a sweet malty brew thrown together without care or consideration: most likely the worst Bock I’ve ever had. A headache in the making: couldn’t have had another.
