500ml bottle.
Clear brown pour, small white head. Big nutty aroma with some grassy hops. Thin mouthfeel, logt carb. Very nuttyfinish, some wet paper, and light hops. Pretty basic but well done, and quite pleasant.

This brown ale poured a cloudy deep amber with a soapy, minimal head. Scents include candy, glue, roasty light coffee. No lacing. First swig was very thin. Flavours of caramel, smoke and glue? most prominent. Finish is roasty with thin mouthfeel lingering. Sad since the can is so nice looking...

Bottle from the LCBO. Cloudy dark copper with no head whatsoever. Strong malty nose with vanilla and roasted nuts. Sweet toffee and fruit with some smokiness and a light leafy bitterness. Nuttiness appears in the finish. Medium- slick mouth with VERY soft carbonation. Quite enjoyable despite the carbonation. I would have thought this was just a bad bottle but other reviews have indicated the same.

Number two of the Historic Beers four pack I picked up. Commme on Black Creek. Will this beer go down like a rock to head to General Zebulon Pike, or a roaring success like the Bladensburg Races? (Anyone getting this historical, yet subtle US bashing? We did win that war after all, if not all the battles.) It pours an almost opaque brown, with a wee bit of mahogany light filtering through. The head it a bit outrageous, four fingers to spill over the glass on a careful pour. Smells of malts, caramel mostly, and dusty oak (ya I know.) The taste has a good amount of caramel malt, and is a little on the sweet side. A little bitterness on the finish, but just a little. I’m not finding much complexity here, but a passible brew. But I think I’m going to ask the guys to go pick up some historically exceptional beer, when they’re over in Belgium to sign that Treaty of Ghent.

A dark reddish brown ale with a thin big bubbled mocha head. In aroma, a sweet nutty malt with light herbal hops, and a bit of boiled veggies. In mouth, a nutty malt with light metallic notes, herbal hops and beany character, so-so. Boring...must have been a drag for the Riflemen....

Bouteille 500ml.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with low retention and not much lacing. Aroma of caramel malt with some notes of nuts and light dry roasted ester is pretty interesting. Taste is a solid mix between some caramelized malt with clear roasted nuts and light dry roasted malt finish. Body is about average with medium carbonation. Solid for the style though additional body would improve this beer IMHO.

Holy hell, I gotta give it to these guys for finally putting a good one through. Pours kind of reddish brown, quickly dead head. Pretty high carbonation. Smells of roast malt, tastes smoked, hoppy and even some coffee dark. A nice, powerful musk hangs around in the air inside my throat for a protracted time after a sip. Bottle.
