Tap at Fatty’s, Brussels. Dark amber-red body with a big off white head. Hmm, dominantly malty, fresh, kinda gum-like aroma and taste, It’s a good beer by all means, but you run out of descriptors fast enough.

Brown colour, medium white head. A lot of carbonation. Some fruitiness and bitter aftertaste. Balanced beer but nothing special.

33cl, bb 19/10/2013.

Bottle at Ter Halle Gritt (restaurant), Brugge - 01/12/12. Cheers to Yvonne for the pour. Lightly obscured chestnut brown with an off white head. Nose is caramel, toffee, dark sugars, light diacetyl, raisens. Taste comprises caramel, malts, dark fruit, metallic tones, slightly bitter and sour. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, bitter finish. Pretty average fayre no revisit from me !

On tap at L’Europe. Brown colour with a nice and creamy tan head; perfect lasting, maintain a thin layer, nice lacing. Aroma is toasty, sugay, caramelish and dry fruits. Flavour is sweet, caramel, toasty, light spicy, bready with plumbcake hints and dry fruits. The final is light bittery and sweet with good balance. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high. Texture is light oily.

Bottled 330ml. -Darker amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, caramel and dark fruits in the nose. Sweet caramel nutty and malty taste with notes of dark fruits, yeast and alcohol. Unpleasant metallic notes in the finish. 6.7%

From BA: Brown bottle, 33ml, best before mid May 2007, drank 1st Feb 2007. Poured into a Brugse "Staffe Hendrik" bowl (it was the closest I could get to the correct glass). Deep red, almost purple in colour, not a double brown, as its name suggests, still looks good though, light tanned foaming head, which stays thick throughout the drink. What can’t you smell? The complexity is fantastic (I don’t give 5’s), the mixture of beery (hops/malt/yeast), chocolate (Belgian and dark, burnt molasses) and dried fruit (plumbs/dates/raisans/figs) aromas is a joy. The aroma carries on into the taste, very impressive flavours all combine to give you a beer that you will not forget, and for all the right reasons. Filling is a good word to use here, in the mouthfeel part, this is a beer you know you have had, any thicker and you would need a knife and fork to drink it with. I will be trying this again, hopefuly in the draught form (I am visiting Antwerp and the Zythos Fest in March 2007).
