Not every IPA has to be a hop bomb. This beer has some nice understated elements and I would buy it again. The nose is sweet malt, a touch of rye and a hint of tropical fruit. Colour is a redish gold with a soft white head. The taste profile leads with soft, sweet malts, bolstered by a nice touch of rye zestiness. The hops are there but understated, with a nice lemon hit to them. There is a slight mustiness or earthiness lingering in there as well. The finish is smooth with the malts becoming more chewy at the end. Very nicely done.

Like previous ratings, my bottle was completely flat. So I proceeded to pour it incredibly vigorously. I managed to get what looked like a pint glass of cask ale. Biscuity malts, note of caramel, and malty sweetness. Little to no presence of rye, slight grassy hops, low bitterness. Nothing special, too bad alot of these bottles are flat.

This pale ale poured a medium amber colour with a soapy, off white head. Minimal lacing. Scents include must, cereal and flowers? First swig was mildly hoppy with basement flavours along with cereal, flowered hops and honey. Finish is musty with light cereal flavours lingering.

Bottle from Loblaws. Hazy amber body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Very faint lacing. Aroma of rust, digestive biscuit and pot puri. Flavour of stewed tea, metallic water and stale bread. Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Soft fizz. Horribly metallic - I couldn’t finish the bottle.

Bottle: Poured a bright amber color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cereal and peppery notes is enjoyable. Taste is a nice mix between some peppery yeast notes, some cereal and light citrusy hoppy notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable and easy to drink though hoppy side could me more pronounced.

Smell of rye. Copper colour, high white head. Aroma of alcohol, rye, cognac. Medium bitter. Half flat carbon, slightly oily texture.

Pours a clean golden-amber colour with a frothy warm cap, average retention, but some decent creamy-bubbly lace. Sweet aromas of caramel malts, rye grain with hints of honey and light grass. Creamy mouthfeel. The taste is thankfully not sweet. Nice rye grain with a very mild soapy hop finish. Kind of peppery I guess. Becomes hazy at last pour. Not too hoppy, making this a mild pale ale, but an overall good rye beer with a nice mild spicy finish.

Bottle from the LCBO. Cloudy deep amber with no head even after an aggressive pour (not sure if it’s just this bottle or not...) Nose is predominantly rye with some vegetables and toffee and light pepper. Light sweet beginning and a mildly bitter middle and finish. Light spice throughout. Mouth is medium light and creamy with very soft carbonation. Decent tasting, but very flat. Hoping it is just this bottle. Will need to revisit this one.

Draft - Light grains and a bit of spice. Clear orange with a decent white head. Light grains and ry spice with some slight earthy hops.

A dark amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, light grassy malt with light chick pea notes, hummus, strange. In mouth, a nice grainy malt with grassy notes, rye notes, accessible. OttBottShare Oct 2013.
