Our flagship beer, Loose Cannon wins people over at first smell. The carefully cultivated interplay of Simcoe, Palisade, and Centennial creates a most fragrant IPA - its nose bursts with notes of grapefruit, herbs, and pine. Bitterness is somewhat subdued by the floral quality that pervades the taste. The color is burnished gold, and the mouthfeel is creamy. A strong malt backbone balances out the triple-hopped beer. Its nickname, Hop3, comes from the brewing process: our brewers hop Loose Cannon in the boil, the hopback, and the fermenter. It won a second place CAMRA award at the 2010 Great British Beer Festival.

Bottle. Slightly hazy amber color with a nice big white head. Good lacing. Hoppy aroma of pine, citrus, some resinous notes and a bit of slightly caramelly malt. Flavor starts sweetish with malt and a grainy hint, continues hoppy and somewhat fruity with nice grapefruity bitterness. Medium-bodied, maybe a tad too light. A nice IPA.

Bottle from the Strawberry Street Vineyard, Richmond. Hazy amber in colour with no head and moderate carbonation. sweetish, tangerine and citrus hop aroma. Flavour was similarly sweet, with some jammy fruit and hoppy, dry finish. Good.

Bottle @ Granny’s house in Exira, Iowa, courtesy of my baby bro. Fairly hazy, bright orange appearance with a fairly small off-white head. Slightly grassy, grapefruit, citrusy, mild to moderate hoppy nose. Resiny, grapefruit, mild piney hoppy, slightly toasty malty flavor. Inoffensive but boring.

Bottle. Bright orang-amber color with lace. Pretty and original looking. Juicy citrus aroma, grapefruits, caramel, and a bit of chocolate. Big citrus, grapefruit and orange, pepper, alcohol, gin, floral and hot, tingly, bitter, with underlyingt caramel and chocolate. Interesting, juicy, with a peppery finish. A good one, and original.

12oz bottle from Greenwood poured into a shaker. Says purchase before Nov 2011. Pours a light orange with a small bit of off-white head. Aroma is solid hops. Slightly citrus but mostly grassy. Medium bitter and lightly sweet. Decent IPA so far. Medium bodied with a thicker than average texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long slightly bitter finish. Overall, not a bad beer. Don’t remember how much I paid for the single bottle but its definitely drinkable.

Tasty, easy-drinking IPA with a nice citrus soul. The malt comes on heavy and strong, but the hops bitterness balances them nicely, leading the way to a grapefruit-and-pine cone finish that takes its sweet time moving across your palate. The malts start to win the battle as the beer warms, but this brew still makes a nice IPA to sip. (9/08)
