A decadent imperial stout fermented with organic dates then dosed with medium roast La Primavera coffee, sourced from Guatemalan cafetalero Raul Ricci, grandfather of Garage’s very own Maria. A complex malt bill including roast and caramel malts, oats, wheat and rye contributes to a rich, velvety smooth dark chocolate base

Imperial stout by Garage in Barcelona, thanks tderoeck for sharing. Deep mocha-beige, open, loosely structured and thin, dissolving head on a black beer with clear mahogany edges. Aroma of teriyaki, reduced gravy, beef stock cubes, bitter chocolate, marmite, smoked prunes, whisky, burnt toast, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, roasted walnuts, nutmeg, old cinnamon, shoe polish. Dryish onset, lots of umami effect with soy sauce- and beef stock-like associations, sweetish dried fig and dried prune in the middle, sourish edge; very soft carb, full and very oily mouthfeel. Bitter black-chocolatey maltiness with walnutty edges, developing a strong roasted bitterness in the end, completely mouth-filling and roasted chicory-like; whisky-like alcohol accentuates the astringency of this bitterness but the malts have a mellowing effect. Ends hot and boozy, full-on roasted bitter and also peppery-leafy hop bitter. Very powerful, intense, dry stout, a complete detour from all those overly sweet strong stouts you see so often these days. Have an extra point for that.

10/IX/22 - 75cl bottle @ Belgian Beer Geek Gathering (Gent), BB: n/a, bottled: IX//2020 (2022-1142) Thanks to sebletitje for sharing the bottle!

Clear (no residue) black beer, small creamy dense beige head, unstable, falls down quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: very roasted, alcohol, more grains, vanilla, coffee, a bit dusty, ok. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: good roast, alcohol, lots of chocolate, sweet touch, vanilla, more alcohol. Aftertaste: roasted, still more alcohol burning, sugary, vanilla, bitter roasted finish. Decent, but needs either less alcohol, or more body to balance it out.

75cl bottle at Belgian Beergeeks/Brewver summer tasting at Tim's house.
BB 09/2020; from Garage Beer, BCN.

75cl bottle from Deconinck. Cloudy black, small, frothy, yellowish beige head. Aroma of dried date & fig, espresso, cashew, rye & wholemeal bread, earth, walnut, vague soy. Taste has sweet date, fig & prune in a dark-chocolatey, nutty, brown-bready malt body with spicy rye note along bitter coffee roast, touch of vanilla. Earthy hoppy finish, lots of toasty brown bread, bitter espresso, wood, vague date and warming whisky-like alcohol. Full body, oily-sticky texture, average carbonation. Very enjoyable 'extra-flavoured' IS.
