When Johann Liebhard started brewing and serving his own beer on February 2nd, 1878, dark beer was by far the predominant beer style in the Munich area. To remember our great-grandfather, we decided to celebrate the occasion of our breweries 140th anniversary with a special beer.
Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel unfiltriert (or Jubiläumsbier, jubilee beer, for friends) is brewed from five types of malt, using the traditional double fermentation process.
We are quite sure that Johann Liebhards guests would have appreciate our creation. With its warm aroma and malty taste we honor 140 year of tradition and taste.

Medium brown with a light tan head. Dark malts, chewy caramel, chocolate, nougat, light earthy, nutty. Medium bodied. Nutty, malty finish. This is fantastic. Eminently drinkable while being full of flavor.

Unclear chocolate brown with a fluffy head. Roasted hazelnuts, rye, caramel, dark bread, toffee, roasted malt, some citrus, hints of rubber, smoke and leather. Dry roasty zesty bitterness, malty caramely sweetness. Medium bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, dry roasty zesty nutty bittersweet finish. An excellent Dunkel.

Drunk at home, thanks to Lars for the tip where I could find it. Lightly hazy brown, tall head, roasty caramel nose. Hint of sweetness and a good earthy hop content. Excellent complexity for "just" a Dunkel, this is fantastic!

From the brewery, directly, tasting it at our hotel in Munich. It is a typical Bavarian Dunkel, similar than the classic version, 04.18.18, drinking it at our rented flat in the center of Munich.

Bottle. Deep brown pour, off-white. Nose is nice nutty, fruity, like a lighter barley wine. Taste is the same notes with some additional chocolate, super low bitterish notes. Light but full, yet crispy body, soft to normal carbonation. Well rounded, tasty dunkel.
