Sit right down. 28/07/16 – two peated whisky barrels are filled with Black Oktober. January '18 – Smokey Armageddon and so we blend 1 barrel: 1/3 into rum, 1/3 into bourbon, 1/3 remaining – all topped up with fresh Black Oktober. July '18 we re-sample all 4. Smokey Armageddon and further aging. September '18 we trial varying nuts and fruits to mellow the potency. October '18 we settle on ardent application of figs.
November '18, Midnight Anthracite is born.

Keg at Small Bar - Bristol. Pours black-brown with a tight, creamy brown head. Massive peat aroma, charred brown sugar, marshmallows. Medium sweet flavour with more intense pear, bitter baking cocoa, scorched earth, rubber. Full bodied, oily and lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more aggressive pear, baking cocoa, raisins, earth. If you like peat, you'll love this.

Keg at Small Bar, Brizzle. It pours jet black with a tan head. The aroma is rich roasted, sticky, oily, heavy sweetness, stewed fruits, fig, date, cocoa, medicinal, whisky, vanilla and rocky road. The taste is dry, oily, slick, chewy, rocky road, earthy, tannin, whisky, smoked peat, umami, liquorice, warming alcohol, burnt toffee vanilla, fig and stewed black tea with a drying and tannin finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. A bit chewy and tannic. Not bad.

Dan's Stag. Small Bar, Bristol. Keg. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, airy and fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dry dark malts, little dark chocolate. Fair bit of peaty whiskey. Litte tangy dark fruits. Quite a spicy finish. More peaty than I would prefer but quite drinkable.

Bottle at home from Grumpy Goat, 1st February 18. Pours black, not much head or carbonation. Aroma is whisky, barrel wood, booze, coffee, chocolate. Taste is smooth, barrel, good integrated whiskey, chocolate, reminds me of an Emelisse BA impy. Great beer.

Bottle from Vibrant Forest (via Eebria order) consumed at home Tuesday 19th December 2017 whilst making Toad in the Hole. Pours black with a fast disappearing head. Wow I never realised that this was a peaty beer, however it's agreeable, in fact I like it, I don't ordinarily like peaty beers but slowly I am coming around to them. Smoke on the nose, a little bitterness some black treacle, a little fruity tang. I get a little dark cherry, a bit boozy, chewy. Lots going on here, but very, very agreeable. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8
