Many moons ago, after we'd emptied our two Chardonnay barrels of their former saison offspring, we filled them back up with fresh, non-fruited/hopped Zuur. About a month into ageing, we also innoculated both barrels with Brettanomyces. Both barrels tasted very different at the end of maturing; one had taken on the Brett and carried the aroma you'd expect with lashings of dry funk and musty grapes whilst the other was suprisingly fruity with a surprising amount of apricot creeping in. These were both blended and this bottle holds their gift. Heavy Brett funk on the nose, bright mixed fruits on the tongue with dominant grape and apricot, and the finish is full of dry raspberry, tart grapes, and lingering bretty goodness.

Chardonnay barrel aged, light ‘session’ sour, from a waxed bomber bought at Geers in Oostakker near Ghent. Thin and loose, mousy, bubbly, snow white head disappearing completely in the end, misty pale yellowish straw blonde robe with lime-greenish tinge. Aroma of diluted lemon juice, indeed Chardonnay wine and white grape skin, green apple, soap, buttermilk, lime, dough, fried ‘courgette’, pumice. Restrained fruity esters (green banana, green apple) in a softly lactic-sour, minerally environment, softly carbonated, with a soapy wheatiness and cereally main maltiness in the middle; drying lactic sourness in the end too, but remaining fairly gentle, while wood tannins from the barrels remain all but absent. Still, the finish does bring a notable white wine flavour, which in the end adds some complexity to the whole; lots of chalkiness lingering too, though. Soft sour ‘afterburn’. Fruity, not lacking in complexity but it does lack in the promised Brett and wood effects, even if the Chardonnay is certainly there. Feels like a Berliner Weisse with a dash of Chardonnay thrown in, and that is probably not that far removed from the truth. Interesting, but too expensive for what it is and delivering only half of what it promises.

Bottle picked up from Hoptimism, Loughborough, Leicestershire consumed at home, shared with Barry sat down the garden by the pond Saturday 14th July 2018 Flat as a pancake, tart and a little sour. Straw coloured in colour, no head. Tart fruity beer, the chardonnay does little in my opinion, a touch of lemon gives this a little acidity. I really like Vibrant Forest however this is a little bit of a disappointment, does little for me it is ok. A6 A2 T6 P3 Ov12 2.9

15/IV/18 - sample @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival (Leuven) - BB: n/a (2018-422) Thanks to 77ships and Rubin77 for sharing today's beers!

Clear very pale watery yellowish beer, no head. Aroma: very fruity, some citrus and grapefruit notes, little herbal and floral. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish start, lemony, bit metallic, more lemons. Aftertaste: acidic, pretty watery, herbal, bit sourish. Lacking some character. I guess the 3.5% ain't helping much in this case. Mind you, I'm all pro low-abv beers, but only if they have a lot of balls and/or complexity going on...
