This beer is called Heksen & trollen, that translates as Witches & Trolls. Why? We know why but we don't tell! The beer is a Saison, an old Belgian and northern France beer-style. At high temperatures fermented to make it very spicy and refreshing. Lots of citrus in the taste, but with a bitter finish. Light cloudy, blond. Formally known as White Witch

Bottle at home. Pours hazy amber, loads of head, remains for a while, too. Aroma is nicely funky, notes of apple cider, white wine, grapes. Some acidity. Light body, almost no malt base. Flavours are almost reminiscent of an IPA, very hoppy and fruity. Not as funky as the aroma led me to believe. Really lacks body in my opinion. More of an IPA/saison hybrid; nice stuff, just should have a bigger malt base imho.

Draught at BeerGeek Bar. Clear, pale gold colored. AROMA- great complex of apples, malts, flowers, herbs. FLAVOR- clean, dry, lightly bitter, herbs, apples, dried apples, dried fruits. Light to medium bodied.
Delicious.

As Heksen en Trollen, bottle from De Hopduvel, thanks Jonathan for sharing! Rather thin and loose, off-white, bubbly head remaining stable as a thin rim around the edge and some patches in the middle, over a warm ’old gold’ coloured beer, initially clear but cloudy with sediment. Aroma of grapefruit, orange peel, old multi-grains bread, peach, soapy wheat, dry hay, jute, white bread crust, green pear, field flowers. More or less ’clean’ fruitiness in the mouth, hinting at peach, pear and unripe gooseberry, medium carbo, supple mouthfeel, bit soapy from the wheat, which along with the other grains establishes a pleasantly bready, bit cereally malt body with a ’deep’ sourish touch, matching well with the ’spicy’ graininess of the spelt. Ends in a long, dry, earthy and floral hop bitter finish with peppery and retronasal grapefruity notes. Very quenching, this is indeed as ’saison’ as it gets. De Molen can do more than impress with heavy barrel-aged stouts, that much is clear...

Geproefd met Roelzie1986 en Inoven bij het Brabants Bier festival in Oirschot. Het is een oranje kleurig bier met een volle schuimkraag. Het heeft een lekker licht zoetje en een vleugje hop.
