We’re very excited to announce that a new year-round beer will be joining our lineup this spring! Inspired by our collaboration with Florida’s famed Cigar City Brewing, Tropical Pale Ale marries our love and mastery of balanced pale ales with the bright, refreshing flavors of grapefruit and passion fruit accented by juicy, citrusy hops.
Tropical Pale Ale begins with a base of soft pilsner malt layered with Maris Otter, Munich and caramel malts. Huge late hopping with a blend of Mosaic, Citra, Topaz, Calypso and Azacca lends bright flavors of mango, pear, blueberry and citrus to a pale ale featuring slightly toasted biscuit and caramel/toffee notes. Tropical Pale Ale is infused with grapefruit peel, grapefruit juice and passion fruit juice at the conclusion of the boil, resulting in a refreshing acidity and bold tropical fruit flavor and aroma. Currently available on draft with cans scheduled to be released starting in the Greater Kansas City Area on May 10th with other regions soon to follow, Tropical Pale Ale is 5.9 ABV and 45 IBU.

Bakgaarden Både & 010917. Golden-orange color with an off-white head. Aroma is berries, hay, citrus. Flavor is berries, hay, lingonberries, hint of tropical fruits, hop, citrus. Medium body. Ordinary beer.

Tap @ Bakgården Både &. Slightly unclear golden body with a big off-whit head that fades quickly. Aroma has pale malt and slightly sour fruit/berries. Flavor has some slightly harsh, bitter fruitiness with lingonberry and some sweet malt. Medium body and aftertaste in the same direction. Not very balanced or refreshing at all, mostly harsh. Might be something wrong here.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a bright honey gold color with a medium sized foamy off white head that left good lacing. The aroma was bitter and tart with vague tropical fruit and cactus. The flavor was bitter and sourish with vague tropical fruit and a hint of cat pee. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

200ml from tap at Bror. Bright amber coloured body, tiny beige head, spotty lacing. Inviting smell of floral hops. Fresh tropical fruity flavours with a backdrop of leafy hop bitterness. A easy to drink thirst quencher. (Trondheim 25.06.2017).

Fra fat på Cirkus, Stavanger, sammen med Willy (Bjørnøy Rundt Triatlon): klar gylden med flott skum som varer. Mandarin, grapefrukt, høy, grønne druer og karamell. Floral og god bitterhet. Fin balanse, men heller beskjeden aroma. frisk og leskende, nesten som en sommer-longdrink!

Can from J’s. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Lots of grapefruit in the nose. Passion fruit on the palate. Easy drinking and with good hop notes throughout. Really well put together. Good summer beer.

12 oz can from Half Time, 6/5/17. Unclear darker orange color with nice, lighter, fizzy foam that leaves some streaky lace on the glass. Aroma is light and clean, tropical - passionfruit and grapefruit come through as expected. Juiciness is kinda weird, and the flavor is kind of weird overall. Drinks on the tingly side. Solid mouthfeel, though it comes off just a hint thin. Okay.

On tap at City Works. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of dank citrus with some tropical fruit and a grain backbone. Flavor has bitter citrus with some rind and a grain backbone.

Clear peach and apricot coloured body with a nice two centimetre tan head. Aroma of pure tropical fruits: guava, passionfruit, pineapple, kiwi, grapefruit and a lot of lemons - very nice along with a well-balanced malt bite in the nose. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy flavours at first with some tropical fruits all around with the pineapple and passionfruit hitting first then showing some grassy notes, a touch of malt and a little dose of flowers and grapefruit bitterness hitting toward the end. Aftertaste shows some nice light malts, a dose of flowers and pungency and finishes with a great blend of sweetness and pure fruitiness from all the tropical fruit flavours around - with the passionfruit (lilikoi) and pineapple the strongest by far. Overall, a very well balanced beer with a good dose of sweetness captured on top of the great tropical fruit flavours and the pungent hop bitterness that’s all around. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Growlers to Go in Richmond, Virginia on 14-April-2017 for US$2,35 sampled at home in Washington on 30-May-2017.
