This is a ruby hoppy bitter, malty & fruity, brewed using Bramling Cross hops.
There is a skull and crossbones image on a gravestone in Edern, Llŷn. Many caves bear the names of local pirates across the headland and the islands of St Tudwal, and Bardsey in particular, were buccaneers’ nests. Henry Morgan himself stayed at Tŷ Mawr, Abersoch on route from his Caribbeean adventures.
Black Bart from Pembrokeshire was the first to fly the ‘official’ pirate flag. previously they flew a red flag, and because he always wore smart clothes and a red jacket, the French nick-name for Bart was ‘le jolie rouge’ – the ‘Pretty Red One’ [hence ‘Jolly Roger’].

Clear amber beer, small bubbly off white head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a pleasant light caramel - toffee, not that sweet. A little ripe orange fits in well. A pleasant trad brew.

500ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo - cheers!]. Clear, amber colour with average, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, off-white head. Mellow malty and minimally earthy, leafy as well as fruity hoppy aroma, hints of red berries. Taste is mellow malty and mildly bitter, fruity hoppy, hints of red berries, minimally earthy, leafy aspects, a minimally bready touch, some residual sweetness.
Oily-watery texture, smooth and soft palate, medium to fine, dense, mildly prickly carbonation.
Clean, harmonious, elegant - very nice.

Bottle from Vinomundo, Conwy. Deep amber with a thin head. Has a toffee aroma, but not much of sweetness in its taste, which is quite neutral.

500ml bottle drunk on a Lille-London bus. This was the liquid equivalent of smoking a cigar in a crowded area thanks to its strong aroma which certainly raised a few eyebrows in the seats around me. A full-tasting beer full of roasted malts, cigars, bonfire, coal and grandma’s fruitcake. Evil tasting and devilishly good.
