I have always wondered why Tilquin never made a classic ‘oude kriek’ so far, but in this series of experimental fruit lambics, a ‘griotte’ (sour cherry) version could not be left out… Draught at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Moussy, initially thick, coarse, cobweb-lacing, bright lilac coloured head, cloudy purple-hued deep ruby red robe. Aroma teeming with cherry juice, a ton of sour cherry flesh, cherry skins, yoghurt, sour wild apples, light sweatiness and ‘funky’ haystack notes. Like the others in this exciting series, this lambic is filled to the brim with fruit, sour cherry flavours fills the mouth on the first sip, sour with a mellowish core – but the sourness then becomes increasingly strong, aided by a vinegary edge; soft carbo, smooth and very dry mouthfeel. Rounded wheaty basis dried completely by the fruit acidity and lactic tartness, as well as cherry pits and cherry skin tannins in the finish, but it is the truckload of cherry juice which remains the all-powerful factor here. There is no doubt in my mind that, if blended and bottled like e.g. Oude Quetsche, this can easily be turned in a world class kriek.

Thanks! Sampled draft @ “Tilquin Fruit Extravaganza #1” at Moeder Lambiek. Bright red, little head. Nose is sour cherry, nice mix of sweet & sour cherry. Little in the way of carbonation as with the others with nice cherry pits, sweet & sour cherries, lemon, smooth, one big flavour, low vinegar, bit sweet cherry. Tasty.

Pours dark, unclear, purple pinkred. Small white head. Smell is very fruity, had a dry sweetness to it. Taste is acidic, but not too much. Very fruity. Pretty nice, perhaps a tad too much fruit to my liking tho.
