Stout aged in Rittenhouse® Rye Whisky Barrels
The 2019 Reserve Rye Bourbon County Brand Stout aged in Rittenhouse® Straight Rye Whisky barrels highlights a longstanding mutual admiration and respect between Goose Island and Heaven Hill Distillery®, seeking to exemplify the honest flavors that a barrel has on the resulting beer. The Goose Island Barrel House brewers used nothing but the cask and the spirit it once held to impart the flavors into the beer.
Enjoy this unique release side-by-side with our beloved Bourbon County Brand Original Stout—aged at the same length, with the same base beer—and discover the unique contribution that the rye whisky barrel lends. You'll uncover the distinct, spicy flavor that has long been associated with the Rittenhouse® brand. Rittenhouse® is a bottled-in-bond whisky that has a pleasantly fruitier aroma than other ryes and adds a different layer of complexity to the final beer.

Sample from a friend, many thanks! Black with beige head which disappears fairly quickly. Burnt caramel, tar, toasted marshmallows, a bit of booze. Quite a bit of bitter chocolate and some vanilla. A bit more heat than other BCBS variants I've had lately. Drinks nicely.

Bottle shared in Canary Wharf - big cheers to Tipple. Pours black-brown with a tight, creamy tan head. Medium to big sweet flavour with notes of burnt toffee, chocolate, mellow roast, light booze, subtle earth, toasted marshmallows, vanilla, bourbon, dried berries. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, more burnt toffee, cocoa, raisins, bourbon, toasted wood. Very tasty stuff overall.

Xmas Boozy Bottleshare. Thanks to Tips. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, light, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark chocolate, a little dark chocolate cream. Smooth bourbon, smooth and fruity and mildly spicy. Mild esters. Nothing unusual but expertly delivered.

50cl 2019 bottle pours a translucent cola brown, no head. LONG legs. Nose has some cola and rootbeer and Tootsie roll, some dates and chocolate covered raisins, plenty of booze too. Flavor is boozy, plenty of malt and rootbeer and Tootsie roll, some chocolate, some baking spices. Lots of booze though. It's still a little hot and the finish is long, but it oddly works. Can something be hot and smooth? If so, this is.

Pours a black colour and a brown head that doesn't last long. Aroma's of boozy bourbon, fruit candies (schuimpjes), dark fudge, barrel, wood. Retronasal follows this. Flavour is sweet, light fruity, with some roast. Alcohol is quite hot. Medium bodied. Long finish with dark fudge/molasses, roast, light bitter.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of rye whiskey barrels with some sweet chocolate notes and some woody notes. Taste is also a nice mix of rye whiskey barrel notes with some woody notes and blakc chocolate notes with some hints of residual sugar still perceptible. Body is full with a nice creamy texture and good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. Solid re-invention of BCBS with less residual sugar and rye whiskey barrels noted quite dominant.

500ml bottle. Smooth, sweetish and heavy with rye barrel notes, oak, wood, toffee, whisky, earthiness, coffee and dark chocolate. Okay, but not as good as the best 2019 versions --- Beer merged from original tick of Reserve Rye Bourbon County Brand Stout (2019) on 29 May 2021 at 16:24 - Score: 8
