Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy, opaque deep brown with a dense and creamy cappuchino head. Complex aromas of overripe, dried fruits and sophisticated sugars. Rich, sweet and almost fat body with notes of the above. Sufficient bittering hops to avoid it cloying up. Quite good. 221122

The strong dark one in this classic Walloon series, apparently in existence for several years now and already with a new label in the meantime, now simply called "Quad" instead of quadruple. Strong gusher, so be prepared. Thick, shred-lacing, yellowish pale beige, slowly breaking but generally (irregularly) stable head, misty deep caramel brown robe with ochre-ish edge, cloudy with sediment. Aroma of caramel candy, dry cookies, baked banana, bubblegum, coriander, cinnamon buns, brown bread dough, clove, pan-fried red apple slices, jute rope, vague hint of liquorish, ripe pear, dried fig, pancakes, freshly cut bitter weeds, "oude jenever". Sweet, fruity onset, banana ester interspersed with dried prune, fig and pear, sourish edge, medium carb, smooth and rounded mouthfeel - but feeling a tad thinner than the ABV would suggest. Thoroughly caramelly, slightly hazelnutty, brown-bready and dry cookie-like malt sweetness ensues, with a very light toasty bitterish edge, under growing spicy phenols (clove, slight liquorish) and lingering brown sugary notes with associated ripe fruit; ends warming as expected, with a 'jenever'-like afterglow, a tad astringent on the root of the tongue especially when the spicy phenols and a leafy hop bitter note come to reinforce it. Lingering sweetness and slight malt bitterness, with that alcohol remaining quite strong in the end. Decent enough quad, but a bit run-of-the-mill and certainly below the high quality level established by the trappist monks in this genre.

Tap@Skaal, Copenhagen (08/09/2022) - hazed dark amber with a beige head. Aroma and taste delivers sweet malts and an abundance of dried fruit shred, sweet caramel and toffee, lots of spice going on, medium body, spiced lingering sweet malty close. Good stuff.

25/8/2022. Bottle. Morning train beer number one on the way to Peterborough Beer Festival. Obviously at a mere 11% it's a perfect starter beer. Shared into 3 white plastic cups so didn't really get to see the colour beneath its large frothy off-white to beige head. Nice aroma, dried fruits, caramel, prunes, roasted malt, dark bread, boozy whiffs. Quite sweet, moderate bitterness. Very drinkable.

0.33 l bottle from 'Bierothek', best before October 2024. Gently hazy, dark ruby with a medium large, foamy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently yeasty-spicy, moderately fruity aroma of caramel, chocolate, raisins and prunes with a touch of overripe banana and clove. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, rather yeasty-spicy and slightly fruity taste of caramel, chocolate, overripe banana, clove, coconut, some raisins and prunes, followed by a medium long, gently bitter, rather yeasty-spicy, slightly roasty finish. Medium to full body, fairly effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Chocolate-forward Quad, rather roasty than fruity, fairly saturating. Not top notch but quite good nevertheless.

Another in the long running series of 'how the fuck have I not rated this?'. Almost opaque rich reddish brown beer, tidy tan head. Strong fruity nose, berries and ripe fruits along with some sweet malt and candyish esters. Palate is smooth and very slightly viscous, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a nice level of creamy sweetness, touch of caramel toffee underneath. Rich ripe fruits, prune and date slightly ascending the pack. Mild alcohol spice. Some mild sweet esters come to the fore in the semi dry finish. Nice. Now barrelling is in fashion in Belgium, this would be a nice one to stick in a brandy or tawny port barrel.
