Poured from the tap. Very hazy yellow with minimal white head. Wheat with feint ginger and coriander. A little too timid, but okay.

I think this has been rebranded simply Tanaka and is now 4.5% Can picked up at Peluso Beaubien I believe or maybe it was Fromagerie Atwater? I had to get it as it is bizarre seeing a beer made in Quebec with Kanji on the label and the name Tanaka. Weirdly among the suggested pairings on the 473ml can for this wheat ginger beer is your Mother-in-Law. A ginger wheat beer from Quebec that is oddly named in Japanese. A wine like ginger nose, medium bodied with a semi-sweet finish. Tangy wheat but I don’t get much ginger out of it. Alright but it took a big whiff to get much ginger out of it, too subtle.

Canette 473ml. Couleur jaune trouble, mousse blanche laissant un anneau sur les parois du verre. Arôme de blé, levure, gingembre, vieille planche. Goût de blé, levure, légère amertume, astringent et âcre. Carbonatation faible, corps moyen.

Tasted from a can that a friend brought to me and that he just bought cold from our favorite beer retailer. I dont know if it’s a missed batch or if the beer got rotten in any way, but this beer smells and taste awfull. The first aroma I got (if you can call that an aroma) was the smell of a stink foot. Appearance was hazy pale straw with flat body and tiny fizzy diminishing head. The taste was a mix of acidity and rotten cheese. It realy tasted like a stinky damp sock. It does’nt motivate me to buy any other products from this brewery. Unless they tell me it was a missed batch and do a recall.

This stuff looks great - the head is huge and thick, the body is foggy yellow, I’m impressed. The aroma is soft caramel and wheat flavours melding together to make something very inviting. The flavour is slight lemon notes with a decent ginger finish; they work well together. The body, though, is weak. It could use some further refinement, because it has some very good things going on.

Canette 500ml. De couleur dorée et très légèrement voilée. Nez fruité (agrumes, genre five alive), léger d’épices (gingembre) avec des notes de blé et des traces d’autres céréales. Mince-moyenne en bouche avec un pétillement bas-moyen et une texture légèrement aqueuse et aux notes huileuses. Goût fruité aux petites notes sûres (agrumes, surtout citron, faibles traces de bananes) accompagné d’un goût épicé (gingembre doux, traces de poivre doux) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un léger goût de céréales fraîches et de blé ainsi que des notes de pain frais puis en finale l’on retrouve des notes amères de houblon herbeux. Post-goût moyen, légèrement amer de houblon herbeux et de zest d’agrumes.

A hazy blonde ale with a thin white head. A very pungent banana cake aroma, berries, lemon, with notes of ginger. In mouth, a light wit with a good attack, light fruitiness, little ginger notes. A very nice light summer wit. Tasted at brewpub, August 2 2008.
