Simple Malt Galaxie

More than a bit underwhelming. The nose is faint malt over a standard black/brown body with a fluffy off-white head. The body is a bit thin for a 7.2% strong ale black ipa. Every element of the taste is a bit faint. There is just not a lot there. Disappointing.

Bottle from Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau at parents’ in Ottawa. Dark black pour with puffy tan head that sticks. Aroma is raisin, apple, coffee - quite malty. Taste is bitter very roasted coffee malt. Somewhat tannic and dry finish. Not bad but wouldn’t get again.

Visuel : Couleur : noire-brune. Apparence : quasi-opaque.
Arôme : Malt rôti, chocolat, léger-moyen de houblon fruité (agrumes, traces de mangues), légèrement herbeux, floral aux notes épicées.
Goût : En entrée de bouche : Goût moyennement amer de houblon fruité (agrumes, traces de mangues), moyennement herbeux aux notes florales et résineuses. Une dominante de malt rôti et de chocolat est présente avec quelques traces de mélasse terreuse.
En bouche : Corps : moyen. Effervescence : moyenne. Texture : légèrement huileuse. Finale : longue, composée d’une moyenne amertume de rôti, de houblon herbeux aux notes florales, épicées et fruitées.

Pours a dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Big froth beige head with great retention and full fluffy foam lace. Beautiful nose with fresh grassy hops, mild roasted malt, sugar, fruity notes, hints of anise and Belgian Ale yeast. The dark malt is pretty mild in the taste with the hops taking over and some rusty water. Easy drinkability but lacking a bit in the taste and mouthfeel department.

Pours a dark brown colour with a creamy-frothy beige head, great retention and some nice lacing. Aromas of the hop with roasted malt, notes of coffee and cocoa. The taste shows the same but with lots of yeast it seems. Decent mild bitterness in the finish with light sugars and molasses. Pretty smooth mouthfeel overall. Just lacking a little balance for this style.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color ale with a medium size foamy head with a large foamy head and OK retention. Aroma of dry roasted malt notes offset by some fruity hops notes. Taste is dominated by roasted malt with some fruity hops and a dry aftertaste. Body is bit light for style with good carbonation. Hops flavours didn’t came through as much as I would have liked but still an enjoyable beer.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color ale with a nice light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of some roasted malt with light grapefruit hoppy notes. Taste is also dominated by some grapefruit hoppy notes with some dry bitter roasted malt. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not one of my favorite style but enjoyable nonetheless.

C’est une très bonne bière que celle-ci. Je ne sais pas si le petit côté médicamenteux vient du Galaxy mais à part ce petit bémol, je l’ai vraiment appréciée. C’est juste assez riche tout en étant sec à la fois. Le dosage entre le houblon et la torréfaction est super! J’en rachèterai c’est certain...

Bue le 07-10-2019... Mousse très faible, légère torréfaction, houblonnage discret, malts bien présents, nez de biscuits au chocolat ;-) 7/3/8/4/15=3.7/5.0

La dominante olfactive s’avère plutôt maltée et torréfiée avec un accent de mélasse brulée. Puis, les accents de résine et de gazon prennent peu à peu le dessus donnant un profil évolutif du malt au houblon. Sous les puissants houblons, on peut encore percevoir quelques traces de café et un peu de réglisse noire. Une plus grande discrétion des houblons aurait cependant permis une meilleure expression des notes maltées. Le visuel est noir aux reflets roux, transparent, avec une bonne épaisseur de mousse, une bonne densité et un maintient acceptable. Quelques traces de dentelle y résistent. L’attaque est torréfiée et maltée, avec du café à profusion; suivi d’une finale sèche et tranchante de notes résineuses. L’équilibre malt / houblon est parfait. Comme je l’aime. Excellent amalgame d’amertume de torréfaction et de houblon. Les notes gustatives sont de café, de cendre et de résine de sapin. Les notes de gazon présentes en olfactif sont beaucoup moins agaçantes au gustatif. Excellente bière. Très représentative de ce que devrait être une IPA noire.

A clear brown IPA with a thin brown head. In aroma, smooth coffee and chocolate malt with light floral hops, light licorice, nice. In mouth, a sweet smooth chocolate malt with light coffee notes, floral hops, resinous, alcohol warmth, nice. On tap at L’autre oeil.
