Making rye while the sun shines - as the proverb sort of goes - is about acting fast, seizing the moment, grasping the opportunity. Marmalade makers know only too well the notoriously short life of the seville orange and capturing that zesty, sweet, perfumed moment is all about timing. Providing the shade to the orange sunlight is the bready spice of rye and golden promise which perfectly balances the sweetness of the orange juice and zest. A final hit of orange zest then creates that glorious afterglow.

Bottle from Beerdome. Very chewy and thick rye kick in the aroma with sweet orange, marmalade, spicy notes including fairly mild ginger. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and medium bitter. Sturdy above medium. Tasty robust Rye IIPA, truly delivers on its potential!

Bottled. Hazy orange colour with a mediumsized white head. Aroma is floral, some fruity ad nectary notes along with very sweet malts and some toffee. Flavour is quite similar, but also has a wee bit of alcohol adding to the sweetess. Still very pleasant sipper.

Can, bb 3/23. Amber with a light beige head. Stern Seville orange rind and spiced breadcrust aroma. But smoothly sweet with oozy rather than feisty citrus and spices before a fairly gentle slide into bitterness. Pretty good - maybe it was once a little less mannered.

Hazy dullish amber. Medium head. Definitely smells as the name implies - there's rye chewiness and orangey hops. A bit of alcohol. Old school DIPA in the house. On the palate, that rye is big, the alcohol also big and lots of orangey sort of hops as well. Not my favourite take on the style, mind you, but they named it well.

can. clear orange, smooth very light orangish head. Aroma is deep nutty malty with bitter slightly dark caramelly, piney and grapefruity hops. The rye really makes the aroma super perfect. flavor is similar to the aroma, but even more bitter. this beer packs tons and tons of complex grapefruity bitter hops, based in a dead solind nutty bitter but smooth maltiness. it is close to barley wine territory, but still packs tons of bitterness. awesome.

33cl can from hopt.it, France. Pours orange amber, fairly hazy, with fine white foam. Aroma is intensely hoppy, fruity, resinous. Oranges come up too. Body is fairly dense, with average carbonation and some stickiness. Taste is pretty bitter, though with some sweet base. Final had some ginger, finally, in the middle of more bitterness.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Golden colour, cloudy, with compact head, persistent. Nice aroma of fruit, jam, light armpit. Full bodied, it seems a bit oily and undercarbonated; there may be some rye spicyness; it's fruity, jammy (although just moderately sweet), orange and orange peel are entirely possible, luckily the ginger is really just a shade in the finish; robust bitterness too.
I don't disagree with calling it DIPA. A bit earthy and pithy, but good overall.
