Bierlala India Stout

Old rating from 29-07-16 - A one off brew in collaboration with Denis of the Kerelshof beer cafe in Cassel. Enroute to Belgium last August I spent a evening at the Kerelshof, where I came by this 750ml bottle, sampled with Denis, I then brought one to take home. It pours a cloudy red amber colour with a beige foamy head. Aromas of caramel & malt. Tastes of caramel, bread, grain & Simcoe hops leading to a medium bitter finish.

Small beige head with an olive hint; dark brown beer. Wood, liquorice, sweetish nose. Mint, wood, liquorice. New World hops, and the mint reappears in the aftertaste. Medium bodied. Nice, but more BIPA character than Stout.

330ml bottle from La Moustache Blanche, Paris. Pours hazy dark, small beige head. Aroma has generous wafts of roast and pine. Taste continues with pine, roast, cocoa, smooth dark malts. Relatively light body. Solid black IPA.

Sampled at VCBF 2017. Thnx for sharing Eugene and Tim ! Pours dark brown, small white head. Smell is roasted. Bit coffee. Mild dark Sugar. Taste is full, sweet, mild dark malts. Rather weak. Thin body and low carbo.

Thank you kraddel & tderoeck! Sampled draft @ VCBF 2017. Dark brown, very big mocha tanned bubbled head. Nose is cheap cacao, basic caramel, bitter roast, empty grainy, low herbal. Taste is empty grainy basic cheap roast, cacao, low herbal bitter, basic sweet, grainy,... Weak, grainy basic cheap chocolate. Not much of a stout or very hoppy, like a poorer lower ABV stout of sorts. Not a big succes.

Little cloudy murky dark brown beer, big creamy beige head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of coffee, lactose, caramel, mocha ice cream. MF: soft carbon, full to medium body. Taste: very very roasted start, ashes, charcoal, lots of cold coffee, bitter roast, hoppy, some citrus. Aftertaste: more roast, very bitter from the burnt malts, ashes, dry coffee like finish. More a dry stout than a black ipa, I'd say...
