La Péché Termopilas is an imperial stout, brewed with the coffee of the same name! Lighter roasting reduces roasted flavors, leaving room for nutty notes in this coffee. The acidity is also slightly more marked than in the classic Peche Mortel. This beer was born at our brewery in Saint-Jérôme in December 2016.

(On nitro @ Birreria Volo, Toronto, Apr 20/18) Pours black with a dense creamy tan head that lasts well as expected. Notes are dominated by nutty, earthy and rather rich coffee, feels less overly punchy and roasty but also more dominant than the regular version. Backing notes of toffee, dark bread, cacao, dusty slightly burnt grains, maybe a little touch of vanilla, light acidity. Overall less sweet and a touch lighter and more acidic than the normal version, smooth and very well-balanced, with a long characteristic coffee aftertaste. Medium bodied, smooth creamy nitro feel, no alcohol. A surprise for me, the coffee made a big difference here and while I love the OG Peche this is quite a coffee showcase. Nice stuff.

11.04.2018, tap @ Caf Sara:
Nice light brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, dark malts, espresso, hay, minerals, grass, toast, bark, cocoa, alcohol. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish roasted, hay, sour-ish roasted grain, bark, minerals, grass, cocoa, sour coffee, toast, alcohol. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry sour-ish roasted mouthfeel. Nice enough, I like the regular one better.

(Draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Original, Brussels, 19 May 2017) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and nuts. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, cacao, dark bread, hints of citrus and tart berries, roasted nuts and a balanced coffee bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, quite dry. Very tasty, with lots of coffee, possibly a bit more citric than the Péché Mortel. Excellent beer.

Draft @ ML Fontainas.
