La Péché Termopilas is an imperial stout, brewed with the coffee of the same name! Lighter roasting reduces roasted flavors, leaving room for nutty notes in this coffee. The acidity is also slightly more marked than in the classic Peche Mortel. This beer was born at our brewery in Saint-Jérôme in December 2016.

A fine, carpet like tan head. dissipates quickly. Nose features ground nuts, roasted coffee, chocolate and berries. Slick and rich. A sumptuous blend of roasted coffee, cream, chocolate, vanilla, ground nuts, dark berries, caramel and butter. Smooth and well integrated to the end. A great PM variation.

Sampled at THT March. Black with dark beige head. Lots of earthy coffee, light oxidized sweet malts, dark chocolate, goat poops, ☕️, toffee, thick earthy roast and dead leaves. Over medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with slick and dry finish. Nice.

Had this last summer and just noticed I never rated it here. From notes: “Dieu du Ciel Thermopilas Peche Mortel 9.5% Pitch black with a thick beige/tan head and a rich coffee aroma. Full bodied with some coffee wafers flavor and roast coffee notes but also a good sweetness. Nicely done.”

Draught at Row 34, 4/3/18.
Black, seemingly opaque, though with ruddy edges. Tan head fades slowly to cover.
Spicy coffee in the nose is interesting and quite forward. Sticky toffee and walnut puree emanate from the malts and it's definitely not quite what I expected, the coffee having transformed it quite differently than the normal version (which seems quite desired/desirable). Still, it's not all that aromatic, aside from the coffee.
In the mouth it's spicy, bitter with black pepper, and just a sticky, odd, sharp bitterness lingering. Tar, vanilla, cocoa...lots of dark, dry, black flavors. After all that, I'm not really getting any interesting coffee flavors, at least none that I'd like (fruit, earth, vanilla, wine, chocolate). But the worst part is the strange bitterness that persists and dominates. Perhaps the coffee addition went South.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt notes with some floral coffee notes is quite enjoyable. Taste is a good mix of roasted malt with nice floral coffee notes with some black chocolate notes also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation. Similar to the regular version and quite enjoyable overall.
