A black IPA with strong stout and IPA characteristics. The nose features chocolate, hops, biscuit malt and nuts. Up front the taste delivers fresh flavours of dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and citrus hops. Well blended but with popping fresh and distinct taste elements. A mark of well crafted beer.

Keg at Brasseur du Temps, Gatineau. Black with mid sized head. Tarry licorice aroma with some grapefruit. Mid sweet with medium-full body and dense, rounded mouthfeel. Straightforward burnt licorice and coffee malt base, grapefruit atop. Long bitter finish. Solid.

Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a nice light brown foamy head with excellent retention and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some black chocolate notes and some dry bitter hops notes. Taste is a mix of bitter hops notes with some dominant roasted malt notes and some chocolate malt notes. Body is smooth (nitro) with great carbonation. Enjoyable though profile is focus more on roasted malt then hops.

Draught @ the brewpub (7 o’clock). Pours cloudy nearly black with small light tan head. Clear aroma of hops and fruit, with some touches of malt. Bitter, hoppy flavour with notes of fruit (pears and apples?) and citric and estery touches. Hints of chocolate. Bitter aftertaste with notes of needles. Nice but rather fruity for the style.

Sampled at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown colour, almost black, with a small beige frothy head and a little lacing. Roasted malt aromas with notes of nuts and coffee. The hops shows up in the start of the taste, with decent bitterness that last the whole time, and over the roasted malts. Hints of roasted nuts, chocolate and cherries. A nice black IPA that has a big stout nose, and the IPA in the mouth.

A deep dark IPA with a thick frothy creamy lacing brown head. In aroma, smooth bitter chocolate with piney floral hops, light sulfur, pleasant and bitter. In mouth, a sweet fruity chocolate malt with loads of piney floral hops, resinous, grapefruit pulp, light caramel, very nice. Cask at brewery.
