Orange color, chunks of yeast, big frothy head. Cream, citrus and some hops in the aroma. Tart. Raspberry-like flavor with hops and just a bit of fruity sweetness and citrus. Some hops, resulting in a light bitter and citric aftertaste. Very likeable Belgian ale.

THANKS! 250 ml. bottle sampled at Delirium Cave. Didn’t see a date but very likely this one was quite an old bottle. Dark brown amber, little tanned head. Nose is old cellar, thick licorice & oxidation, quite a bit of varnish, quite watery. Taste is old licorice, huge oxidation, moldy cellar, big sweetness, cooked apple, more oxidation, big varnish. Oxidized body, oxidized apple notes. Past it & probably not that good to start with, it could have been worse.

One of the Pee Klak beers brewed by Strubbe. Off-white, medium, quite stable head, dark and brownish orange blonde colour, bit hazy. Caramel, nutty malts, liquorice, plums, rhubarb, flowers, dough, red cabbage, yoghurt. Soft taste with a restrained pear-like fruitiness, caramelly, honeyish sweetness sticking till the finish, vague aromatic hops and peppery, bit wry alcohol, very badly hidden for a beer of this strength.

1litre bottle shared with my father-in-law in Flanders France. Has a gorgeous sweet aroma I couldn’t stop smelling, taste was malted biscuit and cinnamon underlined with a distinct English bitter flavour. Very tasty and moreish.

Dec 2010: Hoeve Bier - Biere de Ferma. This bottle was bought at the Noel Cuvelier farm/beershop in Abele near Poperinge. Cork and caged 0.75 litre green bottle, poured into four tulip glasses in one single pour. Almost clear amber in colour and looks, a small white head sat on top of the body. The aroma was of Belgian yeasts and hops. Hop bitterness and bite in the taste followed by a sweetness in the aftertaste. Very drinkable, the 6.5% sat well within the brew and it just felt right and correct.
