This beer is the favourite of Laurent Agache, who has always adored stout. “But I mean real Stout, not oversweet gassy liquids!”.
With an aim of finding a fairly marked coffee after-taste, we have chosen to use the most torrefied barley malt that can be found on the market – Black malt at 1400 EBC. As this malt is a bit acrid, we have “corrected” it by using another slightly caramelized malt (150 EBC), and some brown sugar. So that the hops can exist alongside these strong caramelized and torrefied malt flavours, we have mainly opted for the strong American hop, Tomahawk.

Bottle from the Beer Emporium, Bristol. Poured a deep mahogany brown with a small but lasting off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, malt and coffee. Medium sweetness, with moderate roasted bitterness. Full body, thick texture, average carbonation with initially fizzy mouthfeel. Finish is stronger on coffee. with a lingering coffee tia-maria like sweetness.

Butilka(750ml): Very deep amber coloured, loose but stable tanned head; sourish-sweetish nose, coffee, dried fruits and a certain mineralic touch detectable; moderate bitter-sweet and sourish flavour, soft and medium bodied; lingering fruity and coffeish finish, toasted dark malt is detectable as expected. Surely not bad, but all in all a bit disappointing…
