This beer is the favourite of Laurent Agache, who has always adored stout. “But I mean real Stout, not oversweet gassy liquids!”.
With an aim of finding a fairly marked coffee after-taste, we have chosen to use the most torrefied barley malt that can be found on the market – Black malt at 1400 EBC. As this malt is a bit acrid, we have “corrected” it by using another slightly caramelized malt (150 EBC), and some brown sugar. So that the hops can exist alongside these strong caramelized and torrefied malt flavours, we have mainly opted for the strong American hop, Tomahawk.

Opaque dark brown colour, small but stable frothy tan head, light lacing. Rich aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, liquorice, dark fruits, touch of cinnamon, vinous impression. Taste is medium sweet and bitter, bitter chocolate, dark fruits. Aftertaste is bittersweet, liquorice, chocolate, light peppery notes, hint of smokiness, medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. An elegant, well-balanced and rich Stout, very good.

F: huge, lasting, pale brown. C: dark as a night, non-transparent. A: roasted malt, some caramel, fruity, plums, hint of milk chocolate, smoke and coffee. T: roasted malt, coffee, milky chocolate tones, dark fruits, quite dry bitter on the palate, some like woody tones, medium to full body, average carbonation, quite good, sure not the best in the world, but more than satisfied, 0,33l bottle from Delhaize in Brussels.

Ok. I really don’t remember rating this, but there it is - marked as Saturday, the note saved while I was at the Magic Beer Room, so that makes sense. Dark brown body, tan head. Nothing marked by a mixture of yeasty and chocolate notes, both in the taste and the aroma, and a marked "no". So, yeah, not impressed. Should rerate, perhaps.

Bottle at Moeder. 7.6% Stout 2014 Cazeau Tournay Noire a bit of heat, medicinal, big umami chocolate stout sweetness and a bit roasty. It gives me balanced roastiness with chocolate chip cookie notes. A decent stout. 3.6

Bottle shared at Leighton’s gaff. Picked up ages ago from God knows where. Back of the cellar probably about 5 years old. Reddy mahogany brown coloured pour with a lasting cream coloured head. Aroma is sweet biscuit, Belgian yeast, strawberry, cakey malts, little paper. Flavour is composed of spicy strawberry, nutty malts, little age, papery, but not at all bad.
