Préaris @ Café Congé tasting event by the Gentse Biervereniging, Ghent (26 October 2017). With Anke. Cheers to Andy, Erwin & Tim!
Pours hazy red with a lasting, foamy, pink head. The aroma contains beetroot, red fruits, some caramel, wheat, yeast, hops and earth. It tastes light sour and light to medium bitter, with a dry, wheaty and earthy finish. Medium body, slightly watery texture, soft carbonation. Though I wouldn't drink too much of it, it's definitely well-made.

Bottle consumed at Volkscafe St Jakob, , Brugge, Belgium, Friday 15th September 2017 with Lynn and Barry. Wonderful earthy aroma the beetroot is lovely, it doesn't have so much of an impact in the mouth. Pinky perhaps also apricot on colour. Nice beer, nice wheat but good earthy fruity flavours. At the brewery, as Préaris Rode Biet Tarwebier. Seems more innovative than it is, considering beetroot has often been used in the past to add extra ’rouge’ to top-fermented ’kriekenbieren’, but Andy is working on a whole range of new vegetable- and fruit beers so this could be the start of something interesting with great culinary potential. Bright snow white, moussy, more or less stable head over a beautifully coloured, equally hazy orangey-pinkish, coral beer, never seen a colour this warm and bright before in a beer, but my memory could fail me at this moment. Aroma of indeed beetroot but in a ’cleaned’, almost glazed kind of way, along with impressions of soap, watermelon, pink grapefruit juice without the bitterness, raw carrots, bath foam, white bread dough, some caramel candy somewhere. Clean fruity onset, something watermelon-like again, green unripe banana and raw pineapple, fizzy carbo, sweetish with a souring edge - both bringing each other to perfect balance. Smooth yet very soapy (wheat beer!) mouthfeel, very wheaty with a grainy edge, while that clean, glazed beetroot factor oversees everything, being very much present yet not tastelessly intrusive, finish dryish and way less ’dirty’ than I had expected - a weird kind of ’clean earthiness’ doubtlessly coming from the beetroot again, nicely matched with a spicy hop bitterish touch. Very quenching beer, and though this type of beers with added spices, vegetables or other non-beery ingredients will never be my personal cup of tea, there is no denying that this experiment has been made with caution, a strong feeling for taste and technical perfection. I can imagine this appealing to a larger audience. Very summery too, despite the fact that beet- and other roots may seem more ’wintery’ from a gastronomical perspective. I am really looking forward to that new, ’über-orange’ carrot beer now - Andy was kind enough to hand me a sip of the unfinished version - which I believe can become a hit if carried out correctly. I must go back to this tiny brewery in August to find out what has become of it, and of other vegetable beers that are still brooding in Andy’s mind. Interesting!

Thnx to Andy. Pours unclear pinkish red. Ok white head. Smell is very full earthy , mild fruity undertone. Taste is earthy, mild bitter touch. Very mild maltyness. Ok. Mostly beetroot, really. Earlier Rating: 1/1/2017 Total Score: 3.5Pours peachy red/amber. Good white head. Smell is very earthy. I guess beetroot , but i dont know that taste. Taste is full, pure earthyness. I am guessing again thats the beetroot. Late taste has a very nice (!) Maltyness though, as well as a medium bitterness. Bit dry. Not too big of a fan of the beetroot, yet i don’t seem to actually dislike it either. But the maltyness here is great.

23/04/2017 @home - 33cl bottle from Malt Attacks. Red to rose with big creamy tanned head. Nose is some grains, lots of, lots of beetroot. Taste has some maltyness, beetroot juice, light sour touch, red fruit touch, some grains, earthy (as I would’ve expected from a beetroot). I was very keen on trying this, glad I found it by luck. It did live up somehow to my expectations, only feels sometimes a bit like beetrootjuice. But damn nice idea!

330 ml. bottle @ Gollem. BBF 14.01.2017. Deep ruby red cherry red, lemonade, very brief pink bubbles. Nose is indeed massive beetroot, sweet cooked beetroot, faintly watery, overall massive cooked beetroot, wonderful. Taste is lightly sweet beetroot, sugary cooked beetroot, low yoghurt, final bit takes it bit down, low vegetable faintly spoiled beetroot, lightly earthly beetroot, mineral feel, biological weird vegetable lemonade, thin metallic. Body is metallic, thin fizzy, beetroot lemonade feel. Very interesting concept, taste carries a bit too lemonade, spoiled beetroot yoghurt notes but still quite good overall. Great concept & good execution. I am a fan.

Beautiful cyclamen-red beer under a fluffy head. Earthy, vegetable, beetroot - special. Earthy² taste, faint fruity, unmistakably beetroot - but great. Light, very light body, good carbonation. Original as none - cudo’s!

18/VIII/16 - 33cl bottle from the brewery @ home - BB: n/a (2016-859) Thanks to John for the drop-off!

Clear dark orange to reddish beer, big solid creamy yellowish head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit earthy, sweet, strawberry candy, somewhat chemical smell, some band-aid. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: slightly sweet start, bitter touch, earthy, leathery, some tannins, slightly fruity touch, spritzy, a bit like an organic lemonade (Bionade) but less sweet. Aftertaste: fruity, red forest fruits, slightly sweet, sourish touch. soft bitterness, bit lemony. Definitely interesting concept!
