Choulette Ambrée is the result of a rigorous selection of special aromatic malts which give it a good caramel taste. Red, with coppery reflections, dense ivory foam, this beer exudes an aroma rich in notes of prune.

Bottle at Sous-Bock, Paris. It pours amber, with a long-lasting thick beige head. The nose is caramel, wood, leather and spice. The taste is caramel, wood, very spicy, earth, some dark fruit, metallic, brown bread, leather and some warming alcohol, with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body and fizzy champagne-like carbonation. A great biere de garde.

May 2008: 75cl Green cork and caged bottle, poured into two Corsendonk stemmed tulip shaped glasses. The pour was in one almost smooth action, but the second glass ended up with a few pieces of sediment. Otherwise the beer was a lovely amber, a little lighter than a typical Belgian Amber beer but with the same good biege foaming head. The beer was opened 4 months after the Best Before Date. The aroma was like a fairly sweet malty biscuit straight out of the oven. Good flavours throughout, this is a well balanced beer and I really enjoyed it. The 8% doesn’t knock your socks off, but you know it’s there. The French beer scene is a lot better than most poeple realise, this is a good example of what they are missing.

Bottle. Deep, dark, murky chestnut color, large thick, fluffy beige head, solid lacing. Aroma is very earthy and lightly spiced pumpernickel bread and drief fruits. Taste is winter fruits and roots, with rich caramel and Soda bread. Classic example of the style.

A reddish amber ale with a thick lacing mocha head. In aroma, a sweet caramel with light grassy notes, light fruity esters, not bad. In mouth, a nice sweet malt with smooth grassy hops, nice and smooth nutty notes, light coffee, very nice. Bieropholie import. BB 01-12.
