Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Aged in Whiskey barrels, this barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates and the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palate are the hops, held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouth-feel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy now and perfect for extended cellaring.

RBSG 2013. Lots of roasted malt, but far too boozy for my taste. A well made beer ruined by too much bourbon. Roasted grain and a heavypalate.

750mL bottle, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma of deep dark roasted malts, mild whiskey barrels, a bit of chocolate and light espresso. Flavour is rich as hell, full of richly dark roasted malts, chocolate malts, whiskey barrels, and sweet brown sugar. Dense and rich as hell, very complex, and quite sweet as well as roasted. Becomes a bit cloying the more you drink, but it's a pleasure to drink.

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of foppa78. Pours a deep black appearance with a nice, thick brown head. Rich dark chocolate, dark caramel, burnt woody, a bit charred, light candy aroma. A little boozy, dark grape, whiskey, somewhat boozy, dark chocolate, a touch tart fruity, roasty flavor. Pretty tasty but not elite.

Capped 750 from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours black with a significant tan had. Aromas of chocolate, bourbon and alcohol. And oak. Full bodied. Flavor is vanilla chocolate with astringent oak. Finish is drier than not with chocolate, bourbon and head. But the heat is not obnoxious. It’s a very good drink.

Bottle shared at my CBC birthday, London. Pours black-brown with a creamy, beige head. Chocolate cake aroma, some roasted malts. Medium to big sweet flavor, sturdy roast character, dark burnt toast, dark sugar, some light licorice, a bit of burnt wood. Full bodied with fine carbonation; although, it could be fuller. Warm finish with notes of burnt wood, peat, burnt moss, cocoa, earth, dark chocolate. Solid impy.

Bottle thanks to Leighton, during his birthday celebrations. It pours black, with a thick tan head. The nose is caramel, vanilla, oak, bourbon, roasted malt and nougat. The taste is caramel, chocolate, coconut, bourbon, hay, booze, toast, roasted malt and a hint of dark fruit, with a long warming finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Too much booze character and a bit thin for it to work for me. So-so.
