Pours black, huge grey head. Smell is bit oaty. Taste is bit bitter, very intense chocolate, with a sweet, coffee-like aspect. Intense in the taste, but the bitterness hides too many aspects in my opinion. Very nice nevertheless

In the aroma there’s a touch of wooden barrel tartness. It comes through in the flavour too adding a yeasty dryness, almost bretty. Furthermore nice roasted malt bitterness.

Draught @ Vices & Versa, Montréal. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of roast, with notes of malt and estery touches. Bitter, roasty flavour, with notes of coffee, malt and hops. Estery hints in the otherwise roasty finish. Well-balanced and very enjoyable.

A black beer, a head is very big and light brown. Aroma has balanced coffee and roastiness, some vanilla and liquirice, also sweetness of chocolate. Aroma is just great. Taste is powerful, liquirice, dry roastiness, nice bitterness. Overally, the taste isn’t so balanced as the aroma. Medium bodied, the carbonation is almost too much. The stronger body would be also ok. Overally, the great porter, nice flavours with good balance.

Canadian robust porter from Québec, with an opaque, jet black robe and dense, moussy, yellow beige, stable head. Aroma is very meaty and very malty with a refined, very subtle sweet touch: I get hints of bitter chocolate bars and fondant, strong espresso, veal stock, leather, charcoal, pipe tobacco, smoked herring, roasted chestnuts, dates, vanilla extract, brownies, orange peel, salmiac, faint banana, even some candied apricot; no off-flavours here, not even phenols. The taste mirrors the aroma perfectly: a refined, subtle suggestion of candied fruit sweetness, candied dates, even a brief whiff of candied cherries, but almost immediately withdrawing and making room for a bittering malt profile, bitter chocolate, cold black coffee, in a soft, slightly ’zingy’ (metallic), slick texture; there is a sourish touch too, but dull and basic. The malts, thickly layered, render more bitterness than sweetness with even a drying smoked accent, an effect reinforced in the finish by drying, peppery, leafy hop bitterness. The basic sourishness lingers a bit, along with a strong coffeeish malt ’roastedness’. Dry, sturdy porter, but as with many modern porters, I do not see any reason not to call this a stout, because that is basically what it is... In any case, a very enjoyable black beer.

Das Bier im Glas ist fast schwarz und hat eine große bräunliche Schaumkrone. Geruch schokoladig, süß, röstmalzig. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, bitter hopfig, schokoladig, Kaffee, bitter röstmalziges Ende, gut!

(341mL bottle from Depanneur Peluso) Pours nearly black with coffee highlights, slight sediment, huge dense dark tan foam head that lingers on the surface but leaves little lace. Aroma has fresh pine and grassy hops with a slight lemony floral note (Centennial), dark chocolate, roast coffee, slight smoke and a bit of caramel sweetness. On the palate there is lots of slightly sweetened dark roast coffee, quite bitter really, pine resin hops, barely a hint of caramel. On the finish, more pine hops, coffee beans/grinds, extremely dry with a hint of smoke again. Mouthfeel medium full with prickly but low carb. Nice porter, not too "robust" in the boozy sense but big roast flavours well supported by hops. Definitely on the very dry bitter coffee/hops end of things, but would gladly drink again.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a dark brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of light dry roasted notes with subtle chocolate notes. Taste is also dominated by dry bitter roasted malt notes with some subtle chocolates notes with light green herbal notes. Body is fuller than average with good carbonation. Overall this was enjoyable but not sure this should be rated so highly.
