Flavoured with black treacle, Dragon’s Breath is a unique winter warmer beer that was launched in the snows of December 2010. Deep ruby-brown coloured, rich and full-bodied with a delicious aftertaste of morello cherries, this classic beer is available from October to April.

500ml bottle from Dartmoor Brewery. Drunk at our lodge in Finlake, Devon. Pours a clear deep amber, off-white head. Expected a stout for some reason but comes across more of like an old ale, with an appealing caramel sweetness throughout, though generally quite mild-flavoured unfortunately

Bottle. A gift from Totnes. The person not the place. Clear dark amber. Slim off white foam. Nose has sweet toasty bready malt. Hint of the treacle addition. Taste is similarly sweet with just a light fruity bitterness. Smooth and easy drinking. Fine carbonation. Light dry and fruity bitter finish.

Bottle from Morrisons. Near black in colour, with a thin, beige, head. Toasty malts, milk chocolate, dark fruit and a sweetish, gentle, finish. A bit thin-bodied and not my favourite stout by a long way.

500ml bottle. Poured a hazy medium amber colour with a thin white head. The aroma is malt, toffee treacle, caramel, light red berry fruits, light floral hop. The flavour is moderate bitter and sweet, with a smooth, rich, over-ripe red berry fruit, light medicinal, cough sweet, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask @ White Swan, Hebden Bridge. Copper with a small glow and a creamy-smooth head. Smooth tasting slightly sweet bitter with a good density as a winter warmer ale. Its malts are very tasty.
