Double New England-Style IPA

We were asked… incessantly. So, here we are; a New England IPA from Bell’s. Our twist? We doubled it. This beer comes directly from our innovation pipeline starting at our original brewery then moving to our Comstock Brewery for larger distribution. It is juicy (tropical, mango and pineapple hop aromas) with a full body and soft bitterness.

12 ounce bottle. Honey gold pour. Large frothy beige head. Sweet tropical fruit aroma hints at mango and pineapple. Flavor follows nose. Lightly toasted malt is accented by sweet tropical fruit flavors. Decent body, but with a soft mouthfeel. Extremely smooth and the high ABV is well hidden. Light pine notes in finish.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a decent head and aromas of... weed. At least that's what I thought at first. As it airs and warms a bit it seems more like white grape, a slight whiff of mango, and a bit of sweetness. Flavor is a pretty sugary blast with fruit edges and a harsh ABV bite to it... actually, it isn't so much an ABV bit as an unpleasant alcohol presence, like when your home-brew fermented just a little too warm. It is full of pear, white grape, and pineapple, but I don't care for the finish on this one at all.

Ever so slightly hazy deep copper and bronze coloured body with a thinnish, off-white and almost tan coloured head that fades very quickly and leaves just about nothing on top after a few seconds. Aroma of deep citrusey and floral hop elements with some malt notes like biscuits and grain with a subtle sweetness of honey and a light dose of candy. Medium-bodied; Assertive citrusey and floral hop flavours dominate with a ton of stone and citrus fruits noticeable with a lot of body from the malts and some melons and papaya notes as well, but the sweetness at the end is quite strong as well. Aftertaste is balanced nicely with a ton of malts, hops and body with a great sweetness that cuts through everything including the tons of hops and rich body. Overall, a very nice rich almost Imperial IPA that is slightly related to New England styles, but a bit further off, especially in the haze, but the complexity here is very nice and the balance is striking as well. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from the Gettysburg Beer Mart in Gettysburg, Pennslyvania on 12-May-2021 for US$2,79 sampled in my hotel room here in Raleigh, North Carolina on 28-May-2021.

Tangerine, pineapple, biscuit malt, lime peel, and pine aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate white head. Moderately sweet tangerine, pineapple, biscuit malt, and moderately bitter pine and lime peel flavor. Good body and balance.

Pretty good, very juicy if a little sweet, with a major dose of peach, pineapple, mandarin, and lemondrops followed by a firm pine-mineral bitterness and a hint of vegetation. Won’t become a regular part of my NEIPA rotation, but it’s not bad.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazed golden with a white head. Ripe tropical fruit aroma with citrus. Flavor leans more toward the citrus, still with the tropical fruit, though, and still juicy. Another tasty one.

Translucent straw-orange body with barely any haze, medium, dense off-white to cream head. Nose tangy and sweet with pineapple, papaya, and melon. Intense, full-flavored body, juicy and tropical with pineapple, papaya, orange/tangerine rind, hints of bubblegum, and even pine on an unusually malty, caramely backdrop. This almost enters barleywine territory. Great beer.
