Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head and a bit of a muddied, ruby glow - nice. Aroma of alcohol, grain, malt, raisins, figs, pit fruits, a touch of bread & yeast and some subdued apples and fresh fruit. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a deep malt and toffee flavour at first showing some brandy and grape notes while showcasing the pit fruits and relative earthiness on the finish. Aftertaste has a nice profile with a light fruity and earthy note while the alcohol and dryness stays on the end and lingers elegantly. Overall, a nice beer to sample - perhaps not the best beer you’ll find in Bruxelles, but a good beer to sample - and I’d easily classify this as a Belgian Ale or a [albeit it light] Dubbel. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Delices et Caprices in Bruxelles, Belgium on 19-August-2013 for €2,50 sampled at home in Washington to celebrate training for a marathon (tomorrow) on 28-November-2014.

31/X/13 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: 28/X/14 (2013-1018)
Clear ruby red beer, big aery off-white head, little stable, dissipates rather quickly, bit adhesive. Aroma: alcohol, bit dusty, banana, orange peel, floral, citrus, bit soapy. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, honey, very fruity, some mango and passion fruits, bit sourish, bitter hops, grapefruit, lemony. Aftertaste: very bitter, grapefruit peel, citrus, alcohol, bit spicy. Not bad at all...

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from De Hopduvel. BBF 28/10/2014. Contains paradise seeds (apparently an aphrodisiac according to the bottle), juniper berries, Perle hops and saison yeast. Surprisingly dark for a saison, overripe dark red fruits, mahogany, slight red, fading quickly (high carb.) off-white head. Smell is slight saion yeast, sticky overripe dark fruits & again prunes, this is getting weird, syrup, something quite BE, touch syrup and sticky malts. Saison yeast in taste, black pepper, overripe dark fruits, sweet slightly milky white bread (BE thing), spices coming up (paradise seeds & juniper berries I suppose), bitter slight herbs, bread and bark. Too high carb. Bit too run-of-the-mill BE even with all the special ingredients. Still nice but not as fancy as Alpha was. Mmm… saison… the yeast is sort of there but the heaviness and the dark fruits etc.
