When our old friends Toshi Ishii and Bryan Baird approached us about brewing something special for Japan relief efforts, we of course jumped at the opportunity. We created this very special IPA, brewed with 100% Maris Otter Malt and Belgian candi sugar. Once we decided to tie it all together with the addition of Japanese Sencha green tea in a dry hop, the rest of the recipe came together easily. We included hops that we believed would blend well with the tea flavors, and we went non-traditional, at least in the sense of American IPAs. After bittering with Warrior hops, we used Crystal and New Zealand Pacifica for flavor. And then for the first dry hop, we again used Crystal and Pacifica, and added a brand new hop variety, Aramis, from the Alsace region of France. Then we went all Japanese for the second dry-hop, with Sorachi Ace whole leaf hops, and the Sencha tea. Itβs always fun to use new ingredients and new hop varieties, and for that, I say to Toshi and Bryan: βDomo arigato!β

35,5 cl bottle vintage 2011. Rated on 04.09.2012
Aroma is stale and fruity with hops and some green tea. Flavour has fruity hops, mango, apricot and some green tea in the finish. Interesting, I thought this would be more green tea and less IPA. A bit old bottle but hops were still in good condition. Nice.

Bottle @ RBESG 2011 Grand Tasting at Dean Swift. Good hop aroma. Hoppy as hell but with a really good perfumed flavour. Good flavours. Good hops on end. One of the beers of the day.

Bottle thanks to Leighton at his pre-xmas extravaganza. It pours cloudy orange, with a thick off-white head. The nose is tangy orange fruit, pine and a faint hint of green tea. The taste is pine, resin, powdered matcha tea, tangy orange fruit (particularly mango), spice, resin and alcohol warmth, with a bitter-citric finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. An interesting and tasty brew.

Bottle at home in London. Lightly haY gold pour, white foam. Big piney citrus hop aroma. Strong sweet flavor, some caramel, toast, dark sugars, light grass and wood. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, slightly sticky, some resinous hops, caramel, faint tea, pine. Good beer.

Cloudy tan. There was a lot of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. The aroma is fruity, hoppy with light green tea and some vanilla - this comes together nicely on the nose. Expressive fruity character. Lots of tea, blends ok with the hops. The tannins add to the total bitterness. The malts are still chewy Stone, but they are understated. Definitely one of the better Stone brews.

Shared 12oz bottle. Poured a golden yellow color with a lot of sediment floating in there. Aroma is standard hoppy india pale ale, hops, not a lot green tea aroma. Flavor is hoppy but the green tea is pretty much hidden here. Still a good brew.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color ale with a great large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of strong floral hops is dominant and very enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by strong floral hoppy notes with light bitterness level and a bready malt backbone that is quite solid. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Very well brewed and very interesting to drink though I canβt say the tea really made much of a difference atste-wise.
