Cask at The Shrewsbury Hotel. Has quite a distinct taste for a lager, mixing in a little sweetness to the malts whilst retaining a bitter character.

Slightly cloudy sandalwood yellow. Aroma is fruity, hoppy, light. Taste is a heavenly bitter lemon mixed with sweetish hops. Turns to bitter on the tongue. It’s lager, Jim, but not as we know it.

Cask at Sheffield Tap. Clear golden colour with a tight, white lasting head. Smells of lager, funnily enough. Tastes initially sweet. Then malty. Then dry. There’s an alcoholic fruitiness in there too.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria cask ($7): Pours an orangeish colour with a nice creamy white head. Aroma is bready and fruity, but the taste is where it is at. It is kind of fruity. Nice amount of bitter hops. Bready finish. Extremely chuggable, but in the most pleasant possible way a beer can be chuggable. I was very impressed by this offering. This might be the best nondescript lager I have ever had.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours clear gold with a tight, creamy cap. Aroma holds some doughy, crispy malts. Flavor is pretty sweet, some toasty grains, white sugar, light cereal and hints of rindy, straw bitters. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, crisp finish, some hops on the sides of the tongue, bit of cereal. Not bad, very drinkable.
