Maths Question: What do you get by adding crystal malt to British, German, and American hops? An easy-going golden ale, of course! Otchan’s a wonderfully robust beer with a beautiful depth of smooth, malt flavour, as well as just a hint of sweet citrus on the nose. Our second ever beer, and a fan favourite to this day!

Bottle. Fairly clear golden, small white foamy head. Slightly fruity nose, apples and a bit of grass. Gently sweet, mild bitterness, herbal aftertaste. Light body.

50cl bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden with a decent white head. Nose - pale malt and light lemon. Taste - more of the same. Palate - light bodied with a thin texture and a dry finish. Overall - I guess the best thing that can be said is that it doesn’t offend, but that’s because it doesn’t do much at all.

Bronze. Aroma is a bit gluey. A little heavy on the overripe canteloupe. That’s all I taste. Bleh.

Bottle. Amber with no head. Has a slightly dry texture but its hops provide a full fruitiness in nose and taste.

Hand-pulled half-pint in my local ’Spoons’: 6th Nov 13. Poured a golden colour with a white head that produced some good lacing as the beer level fell in the glass. Mild smell: some floral hops notes and pale malts maybe, but nothing strong. The taste is also fairly subtle: again floral hops, more fruity in the mouth though and the malts gave a slightly sweet flavour to the blend. OK and an ideal session ale, not going to upset anyone: it isn’t going to excite your taste buds either.
