HOGSTAR is a rich-straw, golden yellow colour with a distinctive gently hopped aroma. A fuller taste with a good balance between sweetness and bitterness. Brewed with 5 hops and herb extracts, and longer matured for a fuller, deeper flavor.

Keg at Pavlov’s Dog, Reading. Bronzey-gold with a thin but lasting white head and a light fizz. Buttery biscuits with a touch of grass and lemon and a mild bitterness in the semi-crisp finish. As lagers go this isn’t too bad.

330 ml bottle at the Flying Horse, Gatwick Airport. ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, large white head. Aroma of flowers, toffee, honey, hay and dust. Surprisingly malty flavour, again with hints of honey and toffee, and a sharpish hoppy bite in the finish.

Bottle at the Wetherspoon’s in Stansted Airport. Pours a hazy pale gold with a lasting white head. Aroma of hop, floral, with a hint of mint. Light sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Finish has a lingering bitterness and lasting creamy feel. Enjoyable ’new English lager’.

Bottle from Waitrose and drunk at home. Clear gold lasting white head. Some butter on the aroma some noble style hop too. Light diacetyl on aroma only really. Some toffee in the mouth . Is this a lager yeast? Not awful but not really good either. Does feel like an ale yeast though. Butter toffee for me.

330ml bottle @ JDW Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours hazy orange, white head. Sweet marmalade nose. Continues to the taste with a sweet marmalade character. Doesn’t really appear to be standard lager. Bit too bitter and sweet for me. Couldn’t finish. Don’t like marmalade either.

330ml bottle from my local Wetherspoons on 10th March 2016. An average try at a Pilsner/Lager styles beer: looked fine, golden, clear and clean with a small white head. A little hop aroma and taste, but not a lot going on really. Hoped for better from a brewery I have praised before.

Bottle from the Standing Order. Appearance - golden with a nice head. Nose - lemon and caramel. Butterscotch? Taste - oh dear butterscotch confirmed. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a finish that could incredibly cloying. Overall - something not right with this.
