Dark red colour. Aroma is dry and a bit woody. Flavour has initial fruity hop leading to some biscuity malts in the finish.

Cask, 3.9%. Dark copper colour. Nice creamy tan head. Sweetish and caramelly flavour with a roasted note. Almost like roast barley bitterness. A bit rough bitterness, but nice enough.

Cask handpull at Market Porter. Dark brown clear colour with lasting beige head. Good looking beer. Its got a nutty woody character. Some diacetyl. To be honest its pretty poor. Flavours are all over the place and its quite watery in the mouth. Just too watery really and not sure where the nut flavour is going.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Reddish copper with a sparse oatmeal coloured head; earthy, malty, aroma; fruity malt flavour with some slightly tart cherries, the body is rather thin, but the finish is earthy and satisfying with a lasting bitterness. Some highlights, but rather dull overall.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a clear, ruby-brown with a staunch, cream cap. Not much aroma, some light roast, some light malts. Flavor lacks sweetness but does possess a rather unpleasant chemical character. Dry, lightly roasty, some plastic and dirt. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finishes slightly herbal with leafy hops and still very little sugar. Notes of burnt caramel - sans sugar. Not very good this.
