500 ml bottle. Murky dark brown / red with a foamy head. Roasted burnt malt, licorice, rusty iron notes, ground coffee. Dry metallic bitterness, some malty sweetness. Light bodied, oily watery texture, lively to soft carbonated, dry metallic roasty finish. Okay, not great.

Mitternachtsrote Farbe. Ungewöhnlich dunkle Farbe für ein Bier dieser geringen Stärke. Recht röstig. Spuren von Kaffee, Röstmalz und kurz blitzt auch etwas Traubensaft durch. Durchaus süffig, nicht zu wässrig.

50 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Lidl Culemborg.
Dark brown with a beige head. Nutty chocolate aroma. Sweet taste with a low bitter finish. A lot is going one for such a modest ABV beer. Quite nice.

Bottle from local Home Bargains shop. Malts and a hint of chocolate in the nose. Pours a very dark brown with a frothy, transient cream head. Sweet malts are the main constituent in the mouth. Some caramel, plus dark fruits and a hint of coffee grains. Sweetness persists in the finish. Not wildly exciting, but a decent mild – a good session beer methinks.

Bottle. Dark brown bordering on black with a nice beige head. Aroma of metal and light malts. Taste of malts, bitter grain coffee, caramel and a handful of nuts. Moderate bitterness. Low to medium carbonation. Light and watery but still pretty flavorful considering the abv. Nice one.

A Scottish ale made in England?? More burnt coffee notes than toasted ones.

500ml bottle in Llanberis after cycling up Snowdon and back down again. Dark brown pour with a respectable off-white head of foam. Thin bodied, light, a touch watery with a nutty, malty side. Fine mild.

Bottle from Home Bargains, Byfleet. Aroma is roasty, malty with underlying berries. Dark. Stygian. Reflects no light. Thick fluffy foamy beige head. Pretty low key: medium bitter coffee. Underlying sour berry edge, more evident into the finish. Light-medium bodied. Thin but still creamy. Average if prickly carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. I thought this was going to be a low budget tick and pour but it actually hit the spot. Just went down easily.
