Seemed to have two names: the RB one and Apple Wine. Either way. Awesome stuff. Saison like cider. Sour, apple, sweet, funky. Some acidic and some sweetness. Absolutely stunning.

Hazy amber, head is just a pale ring. Low bead. Mine was under a crown seal, not a cork. Smells of mellow apples. Great balance of sweet, sour and acid. Alcohol sticks out a bit, but surprisingly little. The Dark Malted I admired more than I liked and came across as a bit of a freak show, but this is very good and is unusual rather than weird. [12/2009 3.7] This time I noticed more earthy yeast and light caramel in the aroma. The other thing - whether this is the surprise factor wearing off or me eating cheese whilst drinking it - is that behind the acid there is real depth to the sourness. [5/2010 3.9] No date on it, but a bottle I kept for a year to see how it changes - whether the sourness starts to really take over or otherwise. No head, but gentle carbonation. Drank this over a couple of nights. First night - the tartness and funk is there but faded - seems to be turning into a cider with considerable acid behind it. Mellow apples with the sweetness balanced by a dry and acidic finish. Second night it seems more beery again - the malt is more obviously there. Vanilla and sherry notes emerge. Certainly seems to have the structure for aging for some time. as is obvious from my scores, every time I’ve had this I’m more impressed. [4] Second time I’ve had this in the 500ml bottles and it seems just a little nerfed. Still quite tart beneath the lovely mellow apple sweetness, but less wild. On the other hand, no overt alcohol. Very expressive. [3.9] Leaving score as is.

Bottle. Poured cloudy amber with no head. When chilled the aroma was apples and some citrus tang. As it warmed up a geuze-like complexity became apparent (as someone else noted). The palate I found quite fizzy (pleasantly so) and medium bodied. When chilled the flavour was none too great - lots of apples but brutal acidity (it made me cough from the vinegar acidity several times on taking a mouthfull). As it warmed up more complexity became apparent - a little malty and definitely vinegary. It’s a striking drink and I suspect an acquired taste, but for a very occasional cider drinker it was just too brutal, but in a strange way I would quite like another bottle...

Cloudy, amber golden color. Apples cinammon cake exudes from a slightly acidic nose. Excellent acidity in the mouth with just the right amount of syrupiness. Alcohol is not even noticable. Lingering applish cinammon finish. The best cider I have ever had.

LCRBM2. Fermented rotten apple aroma. Sulphury and phenolic. Pourse cloudy golden. Flavor is ok: Cidery apples, cobwebbs into the aftertaste. Sparkly mouthfeel. Weird one....

Bottled at RBESG-06, GTN. (thx Phil) Hazy, orange beverage with some off-white bubbles. The aroma is sour, with apples, fruits and cellar. Sweet and sour flavor with lemon and green apples. Astringent, cleansing mouthfeel. Almost lambic-like, but apple-dominated. Definately nice, but maybe a bit intense. (060826)

Bottle - Many thanks to Tony and Lach (mullet) for sending 2 bottles over!
Muddy, orange body. Fastly diminishing, fizzy head, just like a champagne head. Complex aroma of sour apples, stables, ... Heavily sour, lightly sweet flavour. Very complex flavour of sour apples, the fruitiness is nicely combined with a nice sourness. As a true sourhead, I’m totally into this!

Fully hazy, not like pressed, but crushed pineapples; short lived yellowish head. Nose of apples treated with iceacid (concentrated acetic). Like an unforgettable salad dressing. Vinegar extracted from apples and fish flour added. And some apple concentrate. MF: don’t ask. This doesn’t etch, it lazers. Wow.

Bottled@RBESG’06. Hazy bright orange color, no head. Sour, apple-like aroma, like in Cantillon geuze. Sour apple flavor, very carbonated - foamy mouthfeel. Long sour aftertaste, Australian "lambic".
