50cl bottle at 5% ABV from Tesco, Amersham. A cola brown pour with a fast fading coffee coloured head; aroma of toasted grains and blackcurrant; rather thin in the mouth with a sweetish fruity taste, but also some well toasted malt; and a light earthy bitterness leaving some lingering spice.

Level 42 Bottleshare. Thanks to Colin. Clear deep amber beer, small cream colour head. Slightly thin dark malts, trace of earthyness. Modest piney hop and very light citrus. Touch of orange peel. There is even a little hop spice in the light finish. Really a lot better than expected.

Bottle split at L42, from Morrisons HW, 19/10/17. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent tan covering. Nose is charr, spice, brown bread, toffee, light hop dust. Taste comprises earthy roass, brown bread, light spice, dried berries, smoke, biscuit, hint of pine, ashen tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with light hop bitterness. Nothing I'd look to imbibe again but a fair crack at the style for the price point.

Bottle shared in Canary Wharf - thanks to TB. Pours clear brown with a frothy, khaki head. The nose holds brown bread, toast, light cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavour with soft ashy roast, more cocoa, earthy hops. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with some burnt leaves, cocoa, more mellow roast, burnt brown bread. Pretty basic, but really not too bad.

Bottle from Morrisons. Near black in colour, with a slight, beige, head. Swiggable dark beer, with some caramel, hint of chocolate, thin malts, trace of hops and gentle finish. Ok.

Clear glass bottle at L42 - thanks to Colin. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is soft, earthy, toasty, grainy, coffee grounds and cheap chocolate. The taste is soft, sweet, oily, earthy, toasty, coffee grounds, chewy, sticky, tannins dirt, liquorice and leather. Medium body and fine carbonation. After a while this comes across likely over- stewed black tea. Pretty basic.
