Clear 500ml bottle, the 4.5% version for Morrisons, no visible BBD. Poured into an Abbot Ale badged glass tankard at home on 18th Oct 2017 during a Dark Beer tasting evening. Very dark brown body, fast fading tanned topping. Bittering, citrusy hops battle with the malty base and lose 'big style'. Not one of Greene King's finest (and they have brewed some bloody good beers). Unbalanced in my eyes, had it been a blind tasting I have no idea where or what style I would have slotted it into: not a bad thing really as I don't like to 'Pigeon Hole' beers, but this is just an oxymoron of a Black IPA, if you can have such a thing. Scored objectively. Actually the beer grew on me as it warmed and I got used to it's idiosyncrasies.

Bottle from Morrisons Folkestone drunk on a train. Black cola coloured beer. Lasting tan head. Actually no way near as bad as i feared. Its a hoppy dry stout. Some chocolate some lime some roast. Ok body. Not too fizzy. Fine if not particularly exciting to me.

Bottle. Morrisons. Very dark, cola brown. Decently sticky, messy, lasting, beige head. Nose has some liquorice and black treacle. Some coal dust. Some chocolate. A little earthy hop. Taste is sweet and ashy bitter. Thin mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Earthy finish. Ok, but what happened to the IPA part of it?

Cask @ Beerhouse, Manchester Victoria Station. Very dark but not quite black. Has some darker malts, albeit very mild, and some similarly mild tasting tropical fruits. Has an easy-drinking texture but generally unexciting.

Tried at the bar in paddington station. Almost black colour no head. Aroma has very little of anything other a touch of roasted malt. Taste in light sweet. Not sure where the black IPA hops disappeared to on this.

Cask at the Old Clubhouse in Buxton. Dark clear maroon brown color, beige head. Aroma of burnt brownies. Taste has toast, cocoa, coffee. Light body. Decent enough example of the style.
