A stout as black as the nearby volcanic flow from which it is named. Dive into its dark, robust depths with intense layers of espresso and chocolate. Roasted malt and barley give it a full, toasty finish.

courtesy of goodloid10 Pours clear dark - black with thick frothy beige - yellowish head. Aroma is malty with some very nice roasted coffee. Taste of caramel malt with the coffee being distinct and flavorful, reminiscent of mocha. After taste is lightly hoppy with a good floral finish. At 6.4abv, the overall mouthfeel was warming. An amazing treat.

Bottle. Pours with a largish, creamy brown head and a very dark brown body. Aroma of coffee, roast, tobacco, granulated sugar, and Swiss chocolate. Taste is smoke and chocolate. Sort of a creamy mouthfeel, with light bubbles. A great basic stout.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 20 Sep 2008) Black colour with frothy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with black coffee and dark chocolate. Roasted, malty taste with notes of dark bitter chocolate, black coffee, and cocoa bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Brilliant balance. Very nice beer.

Bottle courtesy of secret santa: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a huge medium brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry coffee with some roasted malt and black chocolate is very enticing. Taste is also a well balance mix between some black chocolate, dry coffee and roasted malt. Body is full with a perfect creamy texture and good carbonation. I very much enjoyed this beer from a brewery that I am starting to learn about.

Bottle from GBBF 08. Black, dark brown edges, thin tan head. Moderate intense roasted malt. I mean it’s a really good intense stout. Just a touch down from an impy stout, but is shares some characteristics. Lovely rich aroma. So Good. Rich espresso coffee and creamy bitter dark choc. Stunning aroma. Somewhat fullish in mouth, more dark choc, 70% cocoa I’d guess, bit of ashtray. Bit of sweetness and then dryness from the roast and a bit of hop. Decent dryness. A little one dimensional and a little sweet. Great aroma, bit sweet and finish could be better.
