From cask at Lass O’Gowrie with JFE and BG 20.01.18. Black. Dense beige head. Aroma and taste of sweet dark malt, dark chocolate, coconut. And vanilla.. Low bitterness.

Bottle from B&M, Halifax. Dark clear amber-brown, but more of the latter, with a small head. It's not got a huge amount of Black IPA character, with more of a dark malt base, but its vanilla is really dominant without being overpowering, and provides a fair smoothness to the ale, and plenty of flavour.

Bottle. Nose is dark malt, vanilla, milk chocolate no hop at all. Taste is smoke dark malt, licorice, milk chocolate light pine from the hops. Passable stout but no real hop presence to justify the sobriquet black IPA

Cask @ Victoria, Birmingham. Black with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish. Lacks hops for a Black IPA. 260717

Cask @ Victoria, Birmingham. Nice creamy head with good duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are roast malt, chocolate, hops, flowers, caramel and has a nice bitter finish.

50cl bottle. Medium creamy beige head. Clear almost black pour. Lovely bitterness. Nicely done.

Cask at Old Wheatsheaf, Frimley Green. Aroma of leather smeared with cheap chocolate. Cola black. Beige head fades to a crescent moon. Medium bitter. Sour, really sour. Berries and quinine. Previous beer had a sour edge so possibly the issue is the pub. Light bodied. Watery. Leaves a slick sensation around my teeth. Gets increasingly more astringent. Did not enjoy.

Handpull cask at the Rock, Cambridge. Very dark brown. Certainly bordering on black. Liquorice, malt, soot and spruce in the aroma. Taste is malty but very chalky and sweet. Short to medium cloying finish. Oily body. Not great and not really a BIPA.

Fra fat på Gog & Magog, Plymouth 22 Sep 16. Svart. Lavt mokkafarget, stabilt skum. Teppelacing. Aroma av plommer. Smaken lettrøstet malt - men også mye frukt. Tørr kaffe i avslutningen.

Cask draft at the Three Magpies. A bit more porter than its American cousin, but I like it. Dark brown, but opaque. Small foamy beige head. Aroma is toast grains and chocolate. Taste also features the roast grains, and their bitterness blends well with hops to make for a nice bite. A bit tamer, but very enjoyable.
