Half pint, cask at JDWโs Gog and Magog. Crocheted lacing from a fawn-coloured head. A deep reddish tint to a ruby dark body. Roasted dark malty nose with a touch of chocolate. Blended taste of cocoa, caramel and dark fruits followed by a bittersweet tail. Medium bodied. Pretty nice (Plymouth 22.09.2016).

On cask. Smooth and slightly roasted beginning. Easy to drink, moderate bitterness, round and refreshing with a malty roasted bitterness. The body has sweetish hints, moderate malty with sone smooth hops. Malty fresh aftertaste. easy to drink, nice.

Cask at Brewhouse&BBQ, Sโton. Dark brown color, small white head, lace. Toasted aroma with hints of dark caramel. Light-bodied. Smooth palate. Licorice, some fruity hops. Light ashy notes. More like light hoppy porter than CDA.

Cask handpull at The John Wallis Ashford. Black beer lasting beige head. Good tasty chocolate flavour. Good condition. Some hop but not a black ipa in my opinion. Not overly roasty. Decent chocolate though.

Cask-conditioned at the Lime Kiln, Bristol,13/12/2015. Near black in colour with a decent, beige, head. Aroma of chocolate, berry fruits and a touch of toastiness. Flavour had more fruit with some added orange peel, bready malts, chocolate and a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

500ml bottle shared with MarcusM on 10th Oct 2015 at my place during a random tasting session (beer 6). Ruby hue to the black body, off-white topping. Malty lead in the nose and taste with some coffee and dark fruitiness also in both the aroma and flavour. Mild citrusy notes filter into the taste, but the malts hold fast and rule the brew overall. Not a lot of sweetness, the malts not being allowed to assert themselves fully. Decent but not really hoppy enough for a BIPA in my eyes.

Draft at the source. Opaque black, thick beige head with solid lacing. Aroma of chocolate, pine, espresso. Taste is roasty cocoa, light bitterness, light body. Decent.

Cask (gravity) @ Nottingham Robin Hood Beer Festival (2014), Nottingham Castle, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England NG1 6EL. [ As Sadlers Peaky Blinder ].Clear medium to dark red brown color with a small to average, open and frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark malt, toasted, light roasted, light nutty - licorice. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration, dark malt, chocolate sweet, light hoppy. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20141009]

Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is quite well roasted and bitter, and the flavour is deeply roasted with a large amount of coffee bitterness. Overall a nice well roasted dark beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50cl bottle from B&M, Reading. Almost black - showing a gleaming chestnut when held to the light - and a thin cream head; aroma of purple fruit, and some deeply roasted malts; fruity taste to start with a milky texture and then some sweet drinking chocolate developing; before a dry woody bitterness that leads into a sweet creamy finish. The hops donโt provide the kick they do in some Black IPAs, so perhaps this is more of a hoppy stout - but regardless of categorisation itโs a very nice, easy drinking, dark beer.
