500ml bottle from B&M Bargains - a beautiful black pour with a lacy white head. The nose is fruit, malt, and more sour fruits. A bitter first bite, typical IPA, then malt and a bit of caramel. Nice oily feel, yet refreshing, great overall.

Bottle from Saucy Pears. Appearance - close to opaque black but with a wee orangey chink around the edges, Nice fluffy head. Nose - burnt toffee and light nuts. Maybe praline. Taste - more burnt toffee, light chocolate. Nuts at the back. Palate - close to medium bodied with a dry crunchy yet tangy texture and a dry tangy finish. Overall - as yoda would say ’’nice it is, a black IPA it is not’’.

500ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb & Stuu666. Pours c;ear dark brown, red chinks, with a thick creamy head. Aromas of creamy chocolate, burnt toffee. Taste is light roast, light bitter. Decent body. More of a light stout.

Bottle at ash’s. Pours black, nose is burnt toffee, creamy, chocolate, taste is similar, dry, roasted, light liquorice.

Bottle. B&M. Clear, dark brown. Film of sticky, tan head. Bit of a main chocolate biscuit thing going on. Some charred wood. Some instant coffee. Drinks light dry, with a little roast bitterness. Hint of sweet. Medium bodied, with carbonation to match. Finishes woody dry. Light bitter close. Lacking hoppage, but nevertheless a decent, easy drinker. Factor in the £1.09 price tag, and it’s even better.

At the Phesant Worcester, and really nice it was too. Deep almost black colour, with a creamy tan head. Aroma has a touch of fruit, the taste is more chocolate, citrus and roasted malt. Very refreshing.

Clear but deep amber - brown beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Smooth and mild dark malts, touch of dry creamy sweetness. Mellow dark chocolate. Hops are pretty mild, light hop itch, no real hop fruits. Light dry finish. It’s an okay beer but really nowhere near hoppy enough to qualify as a Black IPA.

Bottle, big thanks to DOC37V, split at my 40th shit shoot, CBC Islo 11/10/14. Dark chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is light roast, toffee, spice, cocoa tunes. Taste comprises earthy roast, nutty, cocoa powder, earthy hops, brown bread, hint of berry fruit. Medium bodied, spritzoid prickles - little over done, semi drying close. So so for this venerable style.

Bottle share for Colin’s 40th. Ruby red caramel, mahogany brown off white head. Aroma is nutty toasty malts, some grassy, light piney hop. Flavour is nutty malt. Berry. . black IPA I think not. Palate is medium. OK beer.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Colin. Pours clear deep red-brown with a creamy light tan head. Toasty bread in the nose, some earth. Light-medium sweet flavor, some dried fruits, dusty cocoa, toasted pine. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. More toast on the finish, mild cocoa, wimpy roast. Pretty mild but OK.
