Historically Zebedee has been very popular within the shop however less so in pubs so we have needed to consider a lower strength alternative which could serve both areas. We set the brewers the task of replicating Zebedee at a lower strength of 4.3%. This has been trialled over the last month as BEER X.

Cask at Moon Under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours golden yellow with a small foamy almost white head and good lacing. The aroma has floral hops and citrus. In the mouth it is slightly bitter but with a little underlying sweetness. Some grains in the flavour alongside floral hops and hints of grapefruit and tropical fruits. Finish is slightly dry. This is reasonable – certainly swiggable but a bit too citrusy for my taste.

Cask at the Squirrel (not the Mad one, the other one!) in Wycombe. Lightly hazed yellow-gold with a thick white sparkler head. Light lemon and some dusty minerals. Very bland and dull, not helped by having had the life knocked out of it by the sparkler. Poor by Rebellion's standards.

[Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell.] A pale golden pour with a tight cream coloured head; lemony citrus aroma; sweet bready body with a lemon drizzle taste; and a malty finish with a pithy bitterness. A pleasant session bitter.
