Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen “Speling van het Lot” (Twist of Fate) is a series of small batch experimental brews, barrel maturations, fruit macerations and blends. This 11th version features a range of plum(-like) fruit macerations. About 60 years ago, there were more than 200 ancient plum varieties in and
around Belgium, now almost extinct. The ambition is to track down and experiment with such old local varieties and have them grown again with local farmers and enthusiasts.

Most of our grapes are currently sourced with Wijndomein Hoenshof from Hoepertingen, near Sint-Truiden in the beautiful province of Limburg. Ghislain and Jeroen also have quite some plum varieties in their orchard. In the summer of 2019, we got 250 kilos of Mirabelle plums in. We barrel-macerated these for 5,5 months on some young lambic, and blended with some more young lambic prior to bottling, aiming at getting a nice carbonation in the beer, pushing the subtle aromas of Mirabelle up and out of the glass. We used lambic from 3 different barrels and 7 different brews. The final fruit intensity is 462 grams of plums per liter of Pruim. 100% 3 Fonteinen.

Pours unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is full, midlly tart, very oaky. Taste is sharp, tart, mild sweet side almost. Fruity (yellow fruits ) Bit earthy, nice sour aspect as well. Not sure if the online listed ABV is correct ( aboive 9 % ? ) but if it is, it wasn't noticed when tasted this without any info on the beer.

5/IX/20 - 75cl bottle @ 3 Fonteinen Lambik-o-Droom (Lot, BE), BB: n/a (just a small sticker mentioning the number of Speling) (2020-870) Thanks to ElManana+1 for driving and sharing today’s beers, thanks to the Ghent Beer Posse for sharing the 3F bottles!

Clear dark blond to orange beer, dense creamy white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: very floral, some lavender, some indian spices, garam masala, bit funky, oxidized. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit fruity, very floral, orange peel, oxidized, lavender, bit fruity. Aftertaste: little bitter, some tannins, bit soapy, very floral, decent, not the biggest fan of this one.

Bottle at OBD. Hazy golden with small white head. Massive mirabelle, cloves, funky, wheat, dank cellar, allspice, vanilla. Medium sweet and sour. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Great, but strong on the finish.
